Not often I get a chance to see the Afternoon classic live. But today I got a chance to see what was going on, all four channels:
ENGLAND:
NI
Wales:
Here is Scotland..
There was NO afternoon Classic slide, just straight into the Good News promo, then BBC Scotland Promo for a new one off comedy. what is stranger is, Glasgow is doing live CA on BBC2 for no reason, since there are no opt out this afternoon.
It the main ident for the station, which network give Glasgow, If we go back to crappy 2009 ( I doubt we will) Glasgow would use that for Afternoon classics. The point is Glasgow has NO classic idents in its office.

Also, the Steam ident that was used during Afternoon Classics this afternoon had the "BBC 90 Years in Northern Ireland" logo flash into the ident itself and the BBC Two Northern Ireland logo below is seen in 1997-2001 branding.
The novelty of these old idents is definately waring off - the only reason they really work on BBC2 is because their current presentation is so ****. I think Glasgow got this right really - what's the point in churning out a cropped version of the original when you've got an updated version in the mix.

OF course Glasgow never had any old presentation, last year when there used 1985 ident to do a video piece about Glasgow Govan by election, during one of the By election specials, it was a network version.
I think what's possibly making the old idents stale is (in England, at least) the roster of idents are incredibly limited. Then again, I recall somebody receiving a tweet stating they'd be in place until the new year, so it'll only be a couple more months and the Christmas idents will be in place again.
Certainly don't think the classic idents are stale - and remember that we pres fans will have taken quite a lot more notice than the average viewer (and if you're anything like me, re-watched many of them online a fair few times too) - the 'novelty' may have worn off for some on here, but I don't see anyone clamouring for the return of Sunroof either.
I'm loving the NI 90th pres - and especially the chance to see some of the BBC1 globes, balloons etc in "HD" - and the verbal references from the CAs about the different symbols, pointing out the purpose of it all, really make it complete.
It could be argued that this week, the combination of an extended set of remastered 90s idents on Two NI, the 90th anniversary pres, *and* Afternoon Classics might perhaps be marginally extreme - but very few will notice/care, and anyway, why not? People on here were crying out for the return of some of these idents for years, after all.
And as for Two Scotland - remember they're not actually obliged to dig out classic idents for the likes of us.

Larry the Loafer, a spokesman for the BBC has just said that the classic 1990s idents for BBC2 will be in place for 2015 and beyond, according to the Radio Times.

Which I'd be more than happy with. I love them and never get bored of them. However, using only the more comic/novelty idents is missing the trick, I feel. The return of at least a couple of the more abstract ones would give the station a more rounded look, as it was the first time round. Okay, Paint Pot is a bit of a nod towards that direction but if they're really staying for the long haul, I think more proper ones will be necessary.

I think only Ariel, Wave and optic would be best opportunities, most others I cant see bring brought back.
