It's not happening...

Quote:
Project Kangaroo, the online TV joint venture between ITV, Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide, has been blocked from launching by the Competition Commission.

The beleaguered venture, which late last year lost chief executive Ashley Highfield barely four months into the job, has been deemed to pose too much of a threat to competition in the nascent UK video-on-demand market.

Complete inconsistency from the regulators there - last week they were telling the BBC, ITV and C4 to work together more - this week it's illegal.

That's not inconsistency when it depends on the context.

I hate to give the mail oxygen but the comments to their report on this are just classic. To be fair on the mail, the story is plain facts. However that won't stop the speak your branes types.

More like they are frightened people will ditch televisions and make it harder for them to extort a licence fee.

It's time to dump the Nazi tax on TVs and let the viewing public decide what they want to watch. I've never in my life paid this criminal levy on my freedom and will never do so whilst there is such dRoss on the BBC.

One thing I will never understand... Why is there so much American made TV and so many American movies on the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation? Easy - it's cheap 'off peak' fodder so they can hire chumps like dRoss.

it's like they see the word "BBC" and just have to vomit their idiocy.

I do LOVE to read Mail comments in *small* quantities - I feel so much of a better, more moral, person. I especially love the ignorance of them, such as on this one: "more like they are frightened people will ditch televisions and make it harder for them to extort a licence fee".

Daily Mail reader comments are just barking mad, it's like they have no concept of pros and cons. As soon as they see 'BBC' they complain! There was one story about Fern being on her own on This Morning because Phillip was snowed in. And this one commenter was ready to bash This Morning just because the user foolishly thought that it was a BBC programme.

Of course the flora and fauna of the Mail 's comments sections are piddling themselves over it. It involves the BBC and is obviously, therefore, a complete a disgusting waste of license payers money .

I find this comment particularly amusing:

Quote:
Why worry. Most of what is on tv is rubbish anyway so who would want to "log on" to watch it.

Aside from the fact the English in the comment is grade E at GCSE level (how hard is it to use a question mark ?) you don't even log on to use it. You point your web browser at it, having started your computer which may or may not have demanded an authentication process. </pedant>

Anyway, I'm struggling to see how on earth Kangaroo could threaten competition. Anyone care to enlighten me?

do you expect people to know how to use question marks?, some can't even spell, saw an ad in my local shop

"proof reader wanted good rate of pay, etc, etc must no how to spell

anyway I thought the licence didn't apply to the internet so a BBC ITV CH4 partnership shoudl not be an issue

My single favourite Mail article is the one which proves even now they like the BNP.
New BBC taste row as police probe Jonathan Ross stand-in Jo Brand's anti-BNP joke

You read right, they criticsied the beeb some more for making a joke against a facist group!
Oh and they made a point about her being a stand in for wossy.

Also I noticed in the comment that he wrote 'dRoss' rather than 'dross'. Another stab at Ross.

The Hateful Mail posted:
Brand’s routine was a hit with the live audience, who laughed and cheered at her remarks. However, the joke, which was broadcast on the late-night BBC1 show from Hammersmith Apollo on January 16, offended members of the BNP.

Good I'm glad it offend a group of nasty, spiteful morons who's views aren't welcome in this day & age

The Hateful Mail posted:
While covering Jonathan Ross' show Brand joked about the details of the BNP party that were leaked on the internet
The following day, Simon Darby, the BNP’s deputy leader, made an official complaint to Hammersmith police alleging that Brand’s comment had been an act of incitement to cause racial harassment.

Oh the irony Rolling Eyes Laughing

The Hateful Mail posted:
Last night the BNP’s Simon Darby said: ‘The BNP is technically an ethnic group and, under Section 26 of the Race Relations Act, we would suggest there are grounds that an offence of incitement to commit racial harassment has been committed.’

I never knew racists were conisdered a religion, I don't seem to remember seeing it on any forms I've filled out of recent under the "religion" section Rolling Eyes Laughing

Richard from Ivybridge's comment made me laugh, yes because it's all Brand's fault.

The Mail's comments always make me laugh, mainly as most of them are angry sad f****ers Very Happy
