There's also the sunday morning slot reserved for programmes that are religious but kind of pretend not to be - that Nicky Campbell thing currently

There was a full live church service on BBC1 last Sunday, last Sunday of ascension or something. Don't know if it's a regular annual thing

I am being serious. To pick a completely random example, is anybody interested in discussing religious programmes?

Whenever surveys are done by the BBC, Ofcom and others, religious programmes are usually the genre least appreciated by the public

Yes, the show with such topics as "Have beings from other planets guided our religions?"

When that's not on air there's also that show presented by Sian Williams that comes from The One Show studio

I'm very well aware of this and it has been the case for decades.

What about programmes about non-Christian religions, including those found on the obscure high numbered channels? I suspect that this sort of material is well inside the zone of 'do not discuss' on this forum.

There is no "do not discuss" zone on here where it comes to programmes.

However, this is primarily a presentation forum - with discussion about the bits between the programmes, rather than the programmes themselves.

If you want to start a thread about the presentation of the non-Christian religious channels, go ahead, it's completely within the rules. That said, I won't promise you that people will engage with you, that entirely depends on others being interested, but you won't be told it's not for discussion on here.

If you find that The God Channel/God TV has rebranded, please feel free to post about it.

A complete change of name would do them some good. The presentation and the name borders of blasphemy.

Why is it almost blasphemous? I always thought it was a good name for such a channel, ronseal and to the point. Unlike some of the other channels there's no way that it could be about nothing else - they're not trying to disguise it

'Twas Pentecost. AFAIK there are three live morning services each year: Christmas morning, Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday.

Err, trying to brand themselves as God's TV channel, or even the fact that the ident just says "GOD", thereby suggesting themselves to be God.

Let me say, I'm not religious in the slightest, but if I was a Christian, I would consider it blasphemous to God.

The fourth commandement in Christianity is "Thou shalt not take the lord's name in vain". Branding a TV channel with the word God, sure does sound like taking his name in vain.

If such a thing as "God" actually existed, then I'm sure that he/she/it would have more pressing concerns than a niche television channel, which doubtless has more staff than viewers (and probably not many staff!).

Surely the 'God' refers to the subject matter?

Motors TV is about motors, Travel Channel is about travel etc.

Me neither but it's survived for about 20 years so I suspect not many Christians think the same way as you.

No it sounds like the opposite - 'we think you're so great we dedicated a TV channel to you and named it after you' would compliment a deity I'd have thought.

Not that 'God' is her/his name....

That is a relevant point. but they used to be known as The Christian Channel in their early days, and that wasn't wrong in its reference to the subject matter, because Christianity is a way of living, not merely "God".

That wouldn't be surprising, because it does seem these days that even Christians don't follow Christian values any more.

And if that isn't the definition of vanity, then I don't know what is. Which brings this song to mind...

It's the only name you ever here referenced.
