Right so the spell checker would pick up on the incorrect use of a corrctly spelt word ?

To be fair you could learn to spell properly. You come across as having good points to say but I can never understand your posts.

Quite like the theme tune, though!

Of course that's not the theme any more...

Whilst I hear what you're saying, you're not being very respectful, if I'm honest. If someone cannot spell, perhaps, as well as most others, but most people can understand the jist of the posts, and the contributor in question makes good points (well, most of the time Wink), then there's nothing that needs to be said publicly. If you need anything clarified, why not be a little more discreet and send him a PM?

One might also bear in mind that some people have issues with language that can't be solved simply by "learning to spell."

Please consider some people may have dyslexia. Shape or Sharp could very much look like the same word to some people. I am dyslexic. I do not see or hear letters. For example in my case a word is just a shape that has a sound attached to it.

Could I suggest the following would be worth thinking about :

1. Be nicer to each other.
2. Be more tolerant of each other.
3. Where mistakes are made in factual terms, politely correct them without snark or sarcasm.
4. Where opinions are disagreed with - remain pleasant whilst stating the opposite case.
5. If you can't say something nice about a fellow forum member, then best not say anything.
6. Remember this isn't just a forum visited by enthusiasts. It is also read by people working in the industry (who may also be enthusiasts)
7. Think about who is reading your posts, and how they would feel when reading them.
8. If you DO have dyslexia or another issue that may mean your posts look unusual or are difficult to read, then it might be worth putting something in your signature. A couple of colleagues I have at work who have quite severe dyslexia have a standard part of their e-mail signature that mentions it to avoid people thinking they are being disrespectful by rushing their replies. (And not everything can be picked up by spell check)

I know we're all guilty of getting caught up in personal opinions, enthusiasms and obsessions at times (and I'm sure I've been guilty of not doing everything I suggest above) - but you know this forum would be a lot more pleasant to visit if people on it were a bit more pleasant to each other.

If I'm honest, some of the conversations here amount to little more than bullying at times.

Well said Noggin, You have given the post of the year with that. Everyone is guilty of being caught up, but hopeful no takes it to heart. Of course certain people in the industry are a bit up tight ( not them all but its come to head recently) Which is shame because many provide very useful and helpful advice.

One of the biggest problems is, sometime the only way you get the correct information is by posting utter crap. Thus you get strike down and focally corrected. I made a mistake recently of many studios no longer having camera-people or personnel in the studio, Of course the only examples I had to hand was STV and ITV local news rooms which don't and everyone is in the control room. That ended well, of course the because if you look at big ITV/BBC shows there do. Of course some time people just feel I know better, I personnel like I said in the GMTV thread would love people to debate me and correct me, in good way.

Biggest problem of all is you can't hear or see tones of the actually poster. At least in real life if someone was being jokey you can hear it etc but on a forum you need the "Smileys" to have any chance and many of the time most of us just forget about them. If was on of the biggest thing drilled into us by our collage tutors.

As said certain words will look correct and no matter how much you reread your never notice the ironicness of certain post. I remember one day in English class and I wrote the Penist instead of the patient tap dance into the hospitals It wasn't until a helper pointed and and laugh before I know what was wrong.
