The Crazy Frog advert (May 2005)

I've just come back from football, and I came in, sat down - and my Mum was in the lounge. I heard the theme tune to The Bill in the background as it went into a break, and then the Crazy Frog advert came on.

Suddenly the old dear shouted "This bloody advert, turn the sound down Ian, this advert drives me nuts, I'm not going to watch ITV if I see this advert again".

Now, I'd see my mother as quite a sane figure - she's not one to lose her rag easily, so I just wonder how many more tempered people across the UK are thinking of ditching ITV1 because of this stupid advert?

I mean, how many people need to quit the channel before ITV will think twice about showing this kind of 30 second tripe?

Is this an anti-ITV thread in disguise? I agree that the advert is annoying though, but I wouldn't go as far as to say I'll be ditching ITV1 in the near future.

I had the TV on one of the Sky Sports channels a short while ago, and in one ad break the same sodding Crazy Frog advert was played THREE times. So don't worry it isn't just ITV that is overusing this annoying advert.

Not at all, I'm a staunch supporter of ITV1. I prefer its drama, its news presentation, local news outshines the BBC without question, and generally I like the feel of the channel.

It's just that, these 30 second chunks of crap used to be confined to sh!te music channels such as TMF and The Hits, but now they're on prime-time ITV1 - it's not right. They're unbelievably crap, they really are. And even on the adverts that do not involve the frog, it's something stupid like £2.50 for a boIIocks tone that sounds absolutely NOTHING like Little Britain. "Answer the phone, go on then - I don't like phones" - what utter sh!t, I wonder how long it took them to come up with that.

But without wanting to talk about the ringtones too much, it really is gutter stuff, and although some people place ITV's programmes in this "gutter" genre already, I do not.

However, I just feel that any more of these rubbish ads will just bring the general quality feel of the channel down to rock bottom, and maybe, subconciously, I'll start to join the anti-ITV bandwagon.

I'd much rather if they confined these ads to Celebrity Love Island. Trahsy Ad for a Trashy Programme, and not Coronation Street.

(I am not turning this thread into an Anti-ITV thread either, but of course, you can't show support for all their shows can you?)

Going anti ITV just because of a bad advert? Well I will leave it there...

It's reached a ludricrous point now. It's reminiscent of the over-saturation of 0891 lines/chat lines a few years back - except this time it's about fifty times more annoying.

It is quite obvious that Jamster are making so much money that they are now able to afford the rates of ITV1, Channel 4 and Five. Blame all the people who by this stuff.

I don't think ITV are in a position to start turning down adverts and only showing ones that viewers may like! That's not how you run a business!

By the way I note after the first contract ran out on Monday we've now had 2 days without the Frog and now tonight its back, I believe in every break until the weekend

But from an ad-men point of view this advert is doing great!

WE are all talking about it, someone's mum is getting annoyed by it and we are all subconsiously humming that tune!

It's an ad-man dream come true.

It's not ITV's fault (or any broadcaster) to air an annoying advert! We have had many a thread on TVF over the years talking about 'the most annoying advert ever) and im sure this one will be talked about for years!

Just WHO are these people buying this crap anyway? Does anyone actually know anyone who has purchased a ringtone due to an advert on the telly?
