Product placement needs explain more, as to exactly what product was and where it's being paid to be seen. A short white on black caption just before the credit roll would be ideal.

One of the main complaints about product placement is how intrusive it might be, making comparisons with american TV with scenarios that never really happened here, so wouldn't that make it worse?

If Costa want to pay for an occasional coffee cup being held by a character, that is often blink and you'll miss it, and a shop front occasionally in the background, then thats up to them. Having their logo or brand name mentioned at the end of every episode of Corrie would be something else.

Well in terms of crediting product placement over here in the UK, there could be a credit along the lines of what goes down in the US with something along the lines of Production Sponsored or Furnished in Part by to make it a bit more clearer.

So in releation to say Coronation Street. The credit would be Production Sponsored or Furnished in Part by Costa Coffee .

Or Costa Coffee have paid ITV to display products clearly bearing the logo in some scenes in this programme

No argument, then.

There does seem to be a bit of inconsistency on that front - some programmes will include the companies who have placed products in the credits while others don't. Personally I think a slide with the PP logo and companies concerned would be more effective than the PP in the corner, which now we're used to it almost airs unnoticed.

I'd argue that that sort of credit would cost the sponsorer much more as the appearance of the item is becoming more obtrusive simply because of the signal that it's there.

What does concern me more is the Titleist PP on Sky Sports Golf, where the supposed perceived lack of connection with the broadcast being shown and the Placer which was enshrined in the original guidance when PP was introduced is clearly not the case.

I've read this sentence four times and I'm still having trouble parsing it.
I think what you're saying is that the regulations say there shouldn't be a link between the product placement and the programme (ie it should be incidental), whereas golf products on a golf programme are not quite in the spirit of the rules?

That’s it. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

I can't help but remember this:

The ITC were there to make sure they didn't get away with it, whereas the rules written by Ofcom, make sure they now occasionally do.

Have to say, that is one of the best, well observed parodies of cheap mid-80's Australian tv soap operas that has ever been produced - and the fact it's played for laughs is incidental to the actual message.

'Contact your nearest ITC office'. How many ITC offices were there?

It also says that the ITC's offices are now home to Ofcom and had had IBA signage removed. The ITC were in the IBA's old building in Knightsbridge when it first took over (the IBA signage there was changed) That photo is their HQ in Foley Street. Ofcom were never based there, they're in Southwark. Foley Street was once home to ATV though.

As for their offices, I'm sure there were offices in each region at one point, the IBA certainly did

The engineering standards and compliance part of the ITC was in Kings Worthy, near Winchester, and not far from Crawley Court, the IBA Engineering HQ.
No surprise really, nearly all of the IBA Crawley staff transferred to National Transcom (who remained at Crawley Ct,) but a small number of regulatory technical staff, joined the ITC, but remained in the Winchester area.
