I saw a new video from Tom Scott that outlines product placement and how the disclosures for TV are different compared to other forms of media (that of YouTube, Instagram etc.) and mentions the Disney World finale for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway or Lorraine Kelly (actor/person). Makes for an interesting watch/discussion point.

He's technically wrong in the video where he says the P only appears at the start of programmes... it does appear coming out of a break and during the end credits but I agree with his overall conclusion that it needs explaining more prominently. Saw a few people post "oh so that's what the P is for" comments, and if you think about it, when a show has subtitles, that's written out. When a show has audio description, it's a clear symbol with AD in a speech bubble. The P means nothing if you don't know what it means, and it's sometimes hard to see. (I'm not going to argue deliberate malice on this but there is an inverted colour version available to use)
Product placement needs explain more, as to exactly what product was and where it's being paid to be seen. A short white on black caption just before the credit roll would be ideal.
It's too vague at the moment. I notice the double P logo, but I'd like it to be shown on screen 5 seconds before the product placement occurs, rather than stuck at the start of the show or on lost in the break bumpers.

I respectfully disagree. The last thing I want to see is more on-screen clutter during programmes. A “P” suddenly appearing in the middle of a dramatic or emotive scene would somewhat take you out of the moment.
With broadcast there are considerble strands of editorial and regulatory supervision of content shown. There are therefore many levels of control. A simple 'P' is sufficient to acknowledge that Product Placement is being used.
YT creators are totally different beasts with little oversight other than the channel owner, therefore the additional explanation of what might be being used within the editorial on a paid basis is reasonable and I suggest right too.

One of the main complaints about product placement is how intrusive it might be, making comparisons with american TV with scenarios that never really happened here, so wouldn't that make it worse?
If Costa want to pay for an occasional coffee cup being held by a character, that is often blink and you'll miss it, and a shop front occasionally in the background, then thats up to them. Having their logo or brand name mentioned at the end of every episode of Corrie would be something else.
I barely notice Product Placement on UK TV but that’s probably because it’s more subtle compared to US TV. If anything perhaps it’s need to be more prominent.
Things like the Disney finale on Ant and Dec are nothing new anyway. They were permitted pre-product placement if the company funded the event, but didn't pay the broadcaster anything on top of that.
