The Government is expected to give the go ahead for product placement to be allowed on British television.

Quote:
Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw could reveal the change as early as this week in a speech to TV bosses, senior Whitehall sources have told the Sunday Mirror.

But the change will not apply to the BBC which will still be prevented from using product placement. There will also be strict safeguards to protect children’s programmes.

Quote:
The new rules are likely to allow paid-for product placement in TV dramas, as well as sports and light entertainment shows. But ministers could face a backlash if TV role models are seen to be promoting alcohol.

They already do on programmes like Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and The Graham Norton Show Rolling Eyes It's just as bad as when famous people used to smoke on chat shows, now they've either got a glass of wine or a bottle of beer in their hand instead.

Oh my.

I can imagine this on Millionaire.
The Phone-A-Friend would be done by BT, TalkTalk or Virgin or someone.

I can see Freshco's becoming an Asda, Dev's corner shop turning into a Bargain Booze ane the garage becoming a franchise of Kwik Fit. The knicker factory will be forever getting orders from BHS and the Weathy Arms will be taken over by Wetherspoon's.
