Going back to the root post, I've seen rogue captions on C4, just as you describe, a million times. It is a very common error, one that shouldn't happen as often as it does.

How are the C4 captions prepared? The text obviously isn't added live, so I am guessing that they are clean video files of the background, and have the text added to them and then they are saved out to some kind of video file store and selected when needed.

Most broadcast character generators allow templates to have dynamic text added to pre-rendered backgrounds live, or to add stock text to dynamic text and render it live.

Yes - ISTR that it was possible to select a C4 Text page that showed the status of each ad region and the acronym was LEMNUS.

Yes, but only if you're a bit lax with the abbreviation, should be LSMNUS

399 did say 'HFR - London' or 'HFR-North' etc etc when 4-Tel was still with us. Now that 4-Tel has gone and 'Teletext on 4' has started its gone compleatly. I think if you go to 499, or 498 or something its sort of the same thing but only says 'Channel 4' now and not the 6 regional names.

The biggest pain in the arse is that now on Channel 4 or E4 on Sky you cannot look at the Channel 4 only pages like you could with Pg 300 - 399 in the 4-tel days. Its only Five’s, 500's which are now available on D-Sat.

Last time I looked, magazine 4 was being transmitted on DSAT on both Ch 4 and E4.

However - checked again just now and it does indeed appear to have been removed from both chanels.
