I'm not really one for watching shopping channels, but anytime I'm feeling brave enough to venture into the 600s, Price-Drop.tv (and Bid-up.tv for that matter) always seem to be selling the same horrible chunky jewellery.

Now, eithert hey've bought a job lot and are trying to get rid of the stuff, or it is extremely popular. I'd plump for the former.

Does anyone know why they've got so much of it?

I don't know if it's true but I was watching it with a friend once and we were discussing this point (as you do!). He suggested the reason is that no-one actually is sure how much jewellery should cost, whereas with other items (such as TVs) everyone has a rough idea how much to pay.

Though price-drop and bid-up are always selling an identical Dolby Digital system . . . .

OT; but I have to agree with the above post, as no-one actually knows, we know it's just going to be some cheap and naff stuff which isn'r worth much. But it does suprise me how these channels keep going, have you ever been round a QVC Shop? There's tons of junk in there and its stuff sent back, stuff which is pure b*llocks, stuff which doesnt even work, but how QVC keeps going is beyond me. But if QVC have all of their junk sent back I would like to know how much stuff from Bid Up and Price Drop is sent back.

I'm always amazed how the presenters manage to keep a straight face while their extolling the virtues of a "Diamonique" necklace. It really is all shoddy stuff - probably worse than Ratner's. There's always some repulsive gold stuff which looks like it's come out of the props box for an episode of Miami Vice as well.

Mind you, if people will keep buying it...

Bid up and Price Drop are the only members of the 'Jewellery Association in their market; or something,
But they do say that when you get your jewellery delivered, if you have it valued and there value is less than the guide price, they will refund the difference.

Only when valued through their own "independent" valuers Safeguard. The guide on most things seems inflated.

£60 guide for some cheap plastic kids toy train set. I have seem similar things in Pound Land for about a fiver.

Pound Stretcher then. Or some similar place. I get Flash Excel there for a quid.

The amadeus situation is well, a scam. They are just re-branded Zeon watches (ie. the ones that cost a fiver at Argos) [/libel].
