I'm not. As much as I liked it, do you really think ITV would work with him again? They've moved on.

First off, All i said was the format should come back. Secondly I see no reason as to why there wouldn't work with Barrymore again if its good business since.

Most Barrymore shows were totally cringeworthy. Him and his shows won't be returning.

The format was pretty much his, as was the rest of his shows. And it's not the ITV it once was. Their audience have their favourite faces and that makes them money.

^Except for Strike It Lucky/Rich, because Strike It Rich was an American format.

This has been touched on before, but it is alleged that Barrymore is not the easiest of people to work with, which has possibly cemented his consignment to TV history.

*Ahem* Alan Carr.

I get the feeling that TV exec's gave him total free reign to do whatever he wanted. It must have been a nightmare to edit but given that he isn't the best autocue reader, he shone when he was improvising, which was about 80% of the shows he hosted.
The danger with this is that letting him do what he likes can mean you can lose control of the performer and recordings for a 30 minute show could go on for two hours + meaning the audience can get restless.

This ultimately was Barrymore's downfall as into the 21st Century I believe there was an appetite for less 'risky and unventional' shows and I can't see Barrymore's career lasting much longer than it did, even if the events in the news didn't happen.

He would've probably had a place as a presenter, but by the time his career disintegrated, that was when the onslaught of reality shows and dramatic game shows were coming into fashion, neither of which matched Barrymore's style. It still can't be denied that he pulled in the viewers, and his subsequent popularity on Big Brother showed he still had a fan base. But that was only four years after the incident. As time as gone on, there's not a whole generation of people who have never heard of him. If there's any ground to this acting role he's talking about, it'd be the right path for him I think. If he's portraying a character, it'll be less likely for viewers to look at him and go "ey you buggered that fella to deaff dinya?"

The revelations from Alan Carr that he was actually a nightmare to work with didn't make easy reading for me as I grew up in awe of Barrymore. Let's not forget he was battling all sorts of addictions and mental health issues. if he does manage to forge a comeback, I wish him all the luck in the world.

What was that comedy drama Barrymore was in again? I think Thats where he was heading. Remeber strike it rich finishes in 99. I'm sure it was only of late we talked about barrymore, I still like him even if he was difficult.
