I've been watching Price Drop.tv quite a bit recently, but I reckon the final price for a particular product is fixed.

If a watch is worth around £150, you can guarantee the price will not drop below £40.

Is it just me, or are the prices fixed?

Btw - nice to see TV Forumer, Greg Scott on PD.tv this evening! Very Happy

A difficult subject - in many ways, they are fixed, in others they are not.
I certainly see where you're coming from. The execution of the concept (hmm, that sounds a bit fatal) is dubious, as when the host returns to the drop spot, the price will no longer drop, and it's a case of pressuring the last 10 or so to drop in.
Of course, they will say "£40 and it keeps on dropping..."
Then, 5 minutes later, "We've dropped to £40, but the price keeps on dropping!"
A general rule of thumb - if they don't go to the drop spot during a drop, they've made a healthy profit Smile

I've noticed often that the price drop either slows down or jsut freezes, quite clearly they won't let it go below a certain price.

If it's a fix, someone should call Trading Standards, and I think, if it is a fix, they should close Price Drop down.

Aren't "dutch auctions" illegal in this country anyway?

Come on guys, Price Drop TV is a business, and like all other businesses they're not going to lose money on what they do. If you notice, most of the stuff on price drop is actually on bid up about an hour before. I reckon they use price drop to get rid of any stock that is left by bid up.

Greg's doing brilliantly on Price Drop. He appears to be really enjoying himself, which makes it more enjoyable to watch.

No-one is forcing people to buy at the prices. Rolling Eyes

Are you 13, by any chance?

I have bought 3 things from price-drop and very happy I am too.

Come on! What they are doing is hardly illegal is it? The price IS dropping, even if they do fix what it lands on. It doesn't look like they are breaking any rules.

I wondered if some of the 'live auctions' on Bid Up and Price Drop are actually on tape.

The other day Adam was flogging some Cd's and stumbled over a name and place name. Yesterday was watching and he did the same stumble in the same product which sold for the same price.

Bid-Up and Price Drop are live 17 hours a day. Bid-Up used to do pre-recorded hours, but they ceased quite some months ago now. When making referrence to the facts and figures, highest bidders, Bid Up from figure etc, on the screen it is quite clearly live - otherwise people bidding at that particular moment wouldn't get their bids registered!
