The Chase just now featured a question on Mario Testino - with the current stories about him I am surprised the episode was not pulled.

There's usually a difference between a disgraced figure being mentioned in a question and said figure being effectively the centre of attention or the main focus. Challenge comes across this a lot and they've taken the decision based on say if the answer to a question is Rolf Harris for example and no dwelling on him, it gets left in. Challenge have removed where possible any Jimmy Saville references though, and there's that Stars In Their Eyes episode that featured a Gary Glitter singer that ITV have withdrawn.

There's a late 80s Family Fortunes ep aired on Challenge where the question is "Name a famous Jimmy" and the answer of Savile is left in, but with a slightly abrupt cut from the answer being given to it appearing on the board. Les Dennis does comedic impressions of all the other answers said, so presumably his Savile was cut.

On the Channel 4 v Sky debate about The Simpsons before, I don't know how much of it is down to the size of viewership and expectations of the audience.

As an example, before we had to pay for them all individually Sky Sports used to show plenty of pay-per-view wrestling events. This was back in the Attitude era when some of the content, especially with respect to the treatment of women, was questionable then never mind looking back on it now.

Because of the success Sky was having, Channel 4 decided to buy up some WWE shows, including Sunday Night Heat and PPVs such as Backlash.

However, I suspect down to the lower number of people watching on Sky Sports and the expectations of the audience - that they had specifically tuned in to a sports channel to watch this programming - there never seemed to be any problem. Whereas when Channel 4 showed Sunday Night Heat in its T4 teenage strand, or showed PPVs when Lita was getting beaten up by guys, or there was some ill-advised women fighting in pudding contest, they got all sorts of complaints and eventually gave up.

Here's some background on that ill-fated deal: https://mrwrestlingv.wordpress.com/2012/03/25/when-wwe-met-channel-4/

I wonder if there's the same issue with The Simpsons which leads Channel 4 to be more cautious.

In 1999 Channel 4 also dropped a bollock with the Joss Whedon / David Greenwalt series "Angel" - putting what they essentially thought was a continuation of Buffy on at 6pm (the same sort of time BBC2 was showing Buffy on a different night)....

Of course it's not, it's a lot more "adult" than that..... practically the first line of dialogue in the first episode is "piss off pal" and concerns a serial-killing corporate CEO vampire who specifically targets young actresses with the casting couch method. The next three episodes included a sex-mad burrowing demon who jumped from body to body, a perverted stalker doctor who could remove and remotely control his limbs to feel up his prey while they were sleeping, and Spike hiring a paedophile vampire to torture Angel with red hot pokers. Excellent after-school teatime viewing.

It swiftly moved to 8pm.

And then moved way past 8PM, I remember it being burned off around 3AM at one point.

Yep... IIRC they adopted the BBC practice of running a censored version in "primetime" plus an uncut version in the post-pub slot.

If you can call 3 in the morning "post pub"! More like post throwing up in the toilet and passing out in bed time.

Yeah, all to the soundtrack of Darling Violetta.

I wondered what the hell was going on with the picture there (still showing up on the side of the thread). I quick look on the account shows they've done it on a couple of other videos posted on here recently too. Someone's very immature.
