Ok, just imagine for a moment (and yes, I know that can be difficult for some people) that some of the now defunct ITV companies didn't lose their franchises, who would still be around today? What would be the state of Thames, would they be a part of Freemantlemedia? would TVS be part of Challenge TV? Would TSW be taken over by Carlton?
What do you think would happen?

i'd love Central to regain power from Carlton.
Whether the 'cake' returns or not we'll have to wait and see.
The only thing i don't like about Carlton is the removal of the Central name on-screen.
If HTV are allowed to keep their name on-screen despite being owned by Carlton then why can't they do the same thing with Central and Westcountry?

Carlton have done a lot of good for Westcountry which before Carlton ownership was very impoverished and money-strapped, and I think that the Carlton idents look good, but it's a shame that the current idents have destroyed the Westcountry name. They could be modified to feature the names of the franchise, but keep the great starts featuring the hearts because I think that they are good, and far outweigh the Granada regions for presentation points

i'm not sure if you've seen the current HTV idents, TSW, but they are similar to central and westcountry but where we have 'CARLTON' at the end they have their usual HTV ident.

I am well aware of what the HTV idents look like, Aztec West, but I'm sure this has been explained before, and I'm sure you know why.
Reason One: According to rumour, the person responsible for doing the Carlton corporate branding on the subsidary companies Central and Westcountry has now left. Seeing that the corporate branding has made little difference to the company, (apart from complaints I should think!) would it really be worth their time and effort to change HTV to Carlton Cymru/Wales, and Carlton Western England?
Reason Two: The Welsh are a feisty lot, and have a powerful voice through their National Assembly. HTV is a well known Welsh company, having taken it's original name (Harlech) from a Welsh person, and there would be outcry if the name was destroyed by such Carlton corporate branding.
Yes, I think that Carlton should bring back the names of Westcountry and Central, but as the English will, typically just 'put up with it', they will walk all over us!!

it's a shame we don't have the resistance like the welsh to retain identity. it would a terrible day in wales and the west should they ever be carltonized.

I know, but we don't complain enough.
I hate to be stereotypical, but there is a 'Oh, it doesn't matter', 'Oh, I can put up with it' sort of attitude in England, it's what makes us who we are. Prehaps if we as a nation complained a little more, then businesses would listen more. I don't know!

you're right there. it sounds terrible but it's the honest truth.
when you think about it we are a soft touch when it comes to lots of things. you've only got to watch the news to see what's happening around us. we could have a debate about this but it would drift off the initial subject.
