That's a 'smart' tv overlay. I know on mine you press exit to clear it. Green still removes MHEG prompts.

Unless the BBC has started rolling out HbbTV, the overlay probably is an MHEG prompt, just one that's be programmed to only appear on smart TV's.

MHEG doesn't actually have a way of showing prompts before you load a service (unlike Sky), so when you see a prompt it's actually an MHEG application that has loaded but is programmed to show only an overlay instead of a full service. As such they can programme it to use any button to trigger an action, green in this case, and any button to remove, usually green, or indeed none at all.
Colorband, Rex and London Lite gave kudos

Yes, the BBC has rolled out HbbTV.

I've not seen the 'press Green' feature yet. I am on youview with Talk Talk.

I believe this to be a Freeview Play feature and therefore will only be available, confusing as it may be, only on that flavour of Freeview device, plain receivers and YouView being excluded.

Is it possible to remove the prompt permanently as I will never ever use it and although a minor annoyance an annoyance all the same?

Must admit it is annoying me now. Does go off eventually but they could half the time it is there really. It's also rather big too. You can clear it but then you have a Press RED prompt to clear as well, and the old trick of pressing green to do that ends up taking you to the iPlayer as the green link still remains.

Press Yellow and/or Blue to remove HbbTV prompts. (This is what the BBC have said)

I suppose it's no less annoying than the ones on Sky announcing that a "Series link has been created" simply because you watched something on iPlayer or one of the other CUTV services/Box Sets.

I have woken up more than a few times in the middle of the night to discover that my Sky STB has merrily created such a link and carried on downloading and playing 4 or 5 episodes of something while I was slumbering in my pit. Very Happy

Will try that thanks.

Pressing yellow/blue may get rid of the annoyance at the time but it is not a permanent solution as up it pops again when changing BBC channels.

It's the same with traditional red button prompts though
