There was apparently one of those signs in the CBBC office (the real production office) in Salford. There was more than one of them, one in the Broomcupboard and one in Pres A at least.

It stayed on the door of Studio 9 for a lot longer, although rarely if ever seen on air
There was also a rather nice matching Studio 9 logo, which lasted all of a year.

That was the housing the the monitors that didn't last that long before being returned to the video wall arrangement - though it may have had the '9' decorated behind it. Also of similar on air length was the virtual reality chamber - essentially a pod in the studio where a green (though theirs could have been blue) screen lived.
Wasn't there a 9 shaped sofa/seat too?
The '9' logo was topped with lines coming off it similar to 'I' in the classic logo. Studio 9 was designed strongly on the classic logo with multiple colours even similar shapes on the large desk. It's amazing to think that it would only be a few months before the rebrand that I presume they weren't aware of at the time.
Is this the large studio 9 logo that can be seen in this clip towards the end?

Well, I'm not sure about that. It was all very yellow, which was the colour of choice for the 1997 rebrand. (Having said that, the end of the 1994-7 era went towards yellow as its predominant colour too) I think that they just used the old neon signs for that summer - given that the 1997 rebrand was such a massive internal affair, I think that the big studio change cannot have been carried out without knowledge of the new brand. I've never considered that desk front to be related to the classic logo, either, but you may well be right.
You can see the studio 9 logo in this video (and this is post-rebrand, as it is Christmas 1997): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW5YFy4lboM
And there's another, even more classic version at 1:28 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUhKZ4CwA1Q

There were new neon signs, or at least new old logo signs in those tubes that were then covered with the yellow logo.
You're right about the yellow relating to the previous package too. I wouldn't say that the studio had a lot of yellow, the top of the desk was and a few other bits no more so than other colours. More yellow was added with the 1997 logo.
With Studio 9 after removing things like the virtual reality chamber I felt that they had a large section of walls that didn't feel finished. They always felt like blank school display boards to me.
The 1999/2000 sofa area became my favourite part of the set. It took a while for them to utilise this area, but the splattered sofa, table with jean covered legs and trainers and the lovely display of logos on the cabinet doors made it feel cool yet homely.
By this point they'd developed a way of subtly going from using the desk at 3:30, using the screen and main larger part for the 4-5 before the sofa area for the older drama/blue peter and newsround cont.

Here's a brief clip just to show what it was like soon after launching, the top of the desk and the floor are yellow, but they are no more or less dominant than the other colours imo.
