ah, as well as the North West Tonight example that was posted, there was also three ITV News regions whose packages lasted less than a year - Calendar, Anglia News, and Granada Reports. Clearly Granada somehow didn't know about it until it was too late, and it wasn't the first time they'd been caught short like that...

There's also the 1999 YTV idents, relegated to local use, and the 2000 Tyne Tees logo, which must've already been in production at the time and also got relegated to local use (they didn't even update the generic hearts idents, even when the ITV1 change came in). Granada was also supposed to get a new logo but theirs was abandoned.

1988 Tyne Tees, flowing rivers, is another example. Lasted just under a year, replaced by the 1989 generic look.

And I think Thames's 1991 ident was probably made for launch in 1992. They launched it almost immediately when they found out they'd lost their franchise. It definitely would've lasted a few more years (at least as long as that logo was on the endcap) if they hadn't lost out to Carlton.

Are you referring here to the two relaunched to Granada Tonight in 1998 where the second had the old ITV Logo in the background?

The second change was because they moved all operations back to Manchester rather than just the main programme.

I wasn’t aware of a new logo for Granada being planned. Was that for 1998 or 1999?
1999. It used to be on a designer's website along with Yorkshire's 1999 look, but it disappeared years ago.

And Granada Reports, I mean this:

Debuted 15 September 2003, last used 1 February 2004. So it lasted less than five months.

Thanks for clarifying that.

To be honest the generic itv look from February 2004 was not thought out properly. Like you say regions had just adapted a new look but they used the sane studios a d just altered them for the 2004 generic look.

What ITV should have done was spent money and made sure each region had the new 2004 window style sets so it could all be done on the sane day.

That way it would feel like a complete new look.

In 2013 Granada Reports moved to media city two months after the generic itv relaunch. Why didn’t they move on the sane day that way a complete new look?

As nice as 15 regions launching new sets the same day would be practically that's just not possible - suspect in the case of these sets it's the same team installing them across the country too. Besides despite the generic graphics it was quite nice to see different regions have their own interpretation of the theme for their studios, and most did it relatively well.

Hadn't seen that Anglia News at 6 sequence before from 2003 - very clearly inspired by the 4 square ITV logo of the time.

That 2003 Granada Reports look was awful the set looked like a bit of ply wood stood up, the 2001 look was far superior.

I absolutely loved that look for Calendar - well before its time I reckon.

Westcountry Live had a great look in 2002, which barely lasted 2 years, before the generic look came in, although the generic studio was almost 2 years further away.

Another look that could have lasted much longer.

I don't agree with you there, the music was strong but the titles were very basic and the set colour scheme was horrible, it looked better when they traded in red for blue.

The 1999 BBC Spotlight titles and music. Best titles they had before they had the generic look forced on them.

The Anglia News titles of 2003 seemed a quick reaction by Anglia to BBC East relaunching and moving to the Forum - which I was shot down for suggesting by a former Anglia presenter on here - now moved to Australia as a wedding celebrant. And I don’t meen Tim Curtis from the clip who was an excellent Anglia presenter.

The lighthouse Spotlight titles were class.

Some digital channels are quite bad

For instance, Really, with this innovative package introduced in 2016 (replacing a not so bad one introuced in 2013, which you can find in the same website)

Only to be replaced with a Oneness-inspired package in 2017

The titles were designed to match the national news, I think, which had the same colour scheme.

WCCO's elegant graphics from the beginning of this decade should have lasted a lot longer:

This now and next menu from the end of the BBC Two personality idents was rather nice. I remember around the time of them a lot of people thought it was a preview for the upcoming rebrand.
