Not a very good quality video, but I loved the 1999ish East Midlands Today look. Think it was the first look that was different to Midlands Today branding (despite becoming separate in 91, the two used the same branding apart from "East" being in our titles), and showed off the newly opened BBC East Midlands studios very cleverly. Pity the Beeb decided to bring everyone into the same look in 2000.

I would agree there with News at Ten. Very impressive but probably the most short lived.

Certain regional news programmes have been in a Similar position where impressive new looks are abandoned soon after due to a corporate rebrand
Yeah, as well as the North West Tonight example that was posted, there was also three ITV News regions whose packages lasted less than a year - Calendar, Anglia News, and Granada Reports. Clearly Granada somehow didn't know about it until it was too late, and it wasn't the first time they'd been caught short like that...

There's also the 1999 YTV idents, relegated to local use, and the 2000 Tyne Tees logo, which must've already been in production at the time and also got relegated to local use (they didn't even update the generic hearts idents, even when the ITV1 change came in). Granada was also supposed to get a new logo but theirs was abandoned.

1988 Tyne Tees, flowing rivers, is another example. Lasted just under a year, replaced by the 1989 generic look.

And I think Thames's 1991 ident was probably made for launch in 1992. They launched it almost immediately when they found out they'd lost their franchise. It definitely would've lasted a few more years (at least as long as that logo was on the endcap) if they hadn't lost out to Carlton.

Are you referring here to the two relaunched to Granada Tonight in 1998 where the second had the old ITV Logo in the background?

The second change was because they moved all operations back to Manchester rather than just the main programme.

I wasn’t aware of a new logo for Granada being planned. Was that for 1998 or 1999?

I think they were just a little bit too purple. Something a bit more toned down would have been better:

I agree - I always thought they looked like a CRT screen with a broken green channel.

I'd never seen those Channel Four 1998 idents before. They're actually not too bad but perhaps a little too bland which might account for their very short lifespan.

They were replaced though with a blander edit which just saw the screen blur and a 4 in a circle in the middle. They only lasted 6 months or so till the square and stripes look came in.

And finally the BBC bailed far too quickly to criticism of this 1999 revamp of the Grandstand theme

It would've been terrible to see the classic theme abandoned but I really quite liked that remix... of course nowadays, we don't have either #sadface #prayforgrandstand Razz

Looking ahead way into the future now but if they do a "Classic Sports Highlights" show or anything like that for the 100th Anniversary of the BBC in 2022, I want them to use the Grandstand theme.

I really like the 1999 remix too. I think a lot of people are far too conservative when it comes to the sport themes, thankfully the fab remixes of the golf and snooker themes have been going strong for many years now.

My contributions - C4's new look from 1998 was killed off way too soon - after a week in fact:

At one point I thought I’d imagined this look because it came and went so quickly!

I liked the 1999 remix too. Had a real kick to it, and the opening bars (which I know remained in use for the next version) gave me goosebumps on first viewing.

1999. It used to be on a designer's website along with Yorkshire's 1999 look, but it disappeared years ago.

And Granada Reports, I mean this:

Debuted 15 September 2003, last used 1 February 2004. So it lasted less than five months.
