Before Sky rebranded Sky Onc to numerials in August 2008, Sky refreshed Sky One and all it's other channels by creating these "gyroscope" idents and presentation.

It's worth noting that Sky Tuo had "green" idents rather than yellow. Although, I think they should've changed the colour of "Tuo" regardless. My thoughts are that i'm pretty mixed. The idents looked pretty cool and I had no issues with them, they were hypnotic. I just wish they were used a little bit longer as I think these could've been expanded on.

Those idents looked good to the eye, but there was always a feeling that it looked like a stopgap.

Sky One's 2002 ident set was simple and dynamic (the genesis for what forms today's Sky One idents), and could have lasted an extra year or two, rather than a stopgap package that preceded the Onc era.

Further to that, the original idents from Drama’s predecessor, UK Arena. Sadly these idents were pretty much seen by no one, as Arena wasn’t a success and wasn’t widely available.

Though I'm pretty sure that UK Drama used the same idents initially, just with a different logo

Just me that’s not keen? The text reflection, cheesy American ‘live news your news’, clash of the blue set with red/black titles?

I agree, those NWT titles were sickening, and the set was awfully conflicted with the brand. Shocked

I'm not surprised they weren't extended out to other regions.

I completely agree with News at Ten from 2008. Another era of ITV News I think could have lasted a lot longer was the 1995 design:

Still stunningly simple and beautiful now and I thought it was a shame that it was replaced by the tacky American style ITV News graphics in 1999.

I can also agree, however, the 1995 ITN News look and studio did continue until 2000, but only through ITN Morning News (renamed to ITV Morning News in 1999) and ITN News Summary (renamed to ITV News Summary in 1999) in a modified form, but the modifed 1995 ITN News look was short-lived too, because when ITN News Channel launched in August 2000 (and took over the 1995 ITN News studio with an redesign), ITV Morning News and ITV News Summary retired the 1995 ITN look.

I do think that look has aged very well but would say it was pretty tired at the time it was replaced, especially when you think what C4 and C5 had at the time.

I did like these however my first thought from the first time I saw these televised (and I was quite young) was that these were obviously temporary (interim branding) from the get go.

Why did they keep a completely different look and studio just for those early bulletins?

My theory is, that ITN forgot to make 1999-style graphics for their News Summaries and Morning News, meaning their News Summaries and Morning News remained with their 1995 studio and graphics, before the launch of the ITN News Channel in August 2000 put an end to the 1995 ITN era at ITV News Summary and ITN Morning News

That’s a pretty ropey theory to be honest.

That's not the final one. There was a later version without the regional logos.
