Presentation that was killed off way too soon

... or was before it’s time (December 2017)

Sky 1 (2008-11)

This was quite before it’s time, had flexibility, and had deserved a much longer lifespan than 2 years... Salt in the wound is the horrendous presentation we got given instead.
I really do think the presentation could’ve stayed if they had just put the ‘1’ numeral in the box format they introduced in 2011.

Five (2008-11)
It seems 2008 was the year for introducing branding with personality and 2011 was the year for yanking them away for some sterile boring ****. The 2008 branding gave the channel some personality and fun and made five look trendy. This did not last long and was ousted in 2011 by Richard Desmond in favour of a weird screen in an abandoned drug warehouse, killing the font Gotham in the process and giving it the another ‘2 and a bit years’ lifetime. It went from being bubbly and bright to being the victim of getting hoisted to different owners and becoming the Big Brother On Benefits channel, and still is to this day despite being under new ownership and receiving a channel rebrand. I’m rambling...

The sister channel Fiver also was a victim to Desmond, it retained its youthful look but it became the bearer of a stupid name - 5*...

I’m going to definitely add more but I’d love to hear your opinions and what other presentations you think suffered the same fate.

I completely agree..

The BBC1 Balloons too: they could have lasted much longer

As mentioned in the other thread, the sadly short lived UKTV Gold space hoppers

For a good cause though: like it or not, GOLD (but definitely less G.O.L.D.) is a better name for the channel
Removing UKTV from the names added more personality to the channels

However, the "G.O.L.D." branding was much inferior to what we have now

UK Gold was one of the most famous non-terrestial TV channel brands, known even among people who didn't have the channel. To throw it away was madness IMO.

The Sky Premier idents could have lasted for years - they were incredible (and have still yet to be bettered in my eyes).

A little bit more random but the original L!VE TV package was brilliant and can't have lasted more than a couple of months before Janet Street Porter was kicked out and it essentially became Daily Mirror TV.

Obviously horrendously dated now, but I would have liked to have seen how it developed over the years.

Carlton’s 1999 ident set was excellent beyond belief, and one of my favourite ident packages of all time. The centralisation of the ITV brand in 2002 wiped it off TV screens, was worthy of an extra few years.

Nothing for ITV, since then, has come close to this masterpiece.

Rhythm and Movement for BBC One presented a brave step in moving the channel’s branding forward, but it never recovered from the dismay shown by some over the end of the Balloon idents. Could have lasted a year or two more, though.

I'd also like to think Carlton's fabulous 1999 package would have lasted longer than it did. Of course the problem with creating a beautiful package like that was how on earth you'd top it with the next package to come along as you effectively end up painting yourself into a corner so to speak. Little else since then has come close.

Of course going back in time some of the Central presentation still stands up fairly well today, that and the ITV Schools on Channel 4 package that ran 1987-1993. That was plain, simple and effective and I dare say may have lasted another year or so with a few updates and tweaks here and there.

I think the BBC1 Rhythm and Movement package even lasted too much: I didn't despise that package completely, there were some pearls, like "Skaters", but let's just say it was inferior compared to the Balloons and the Circles

Despite a couple of misfires (Haka, Massai, Tumblers, Tai Chi, Christmas 2005), I loved Rhythm and Movement. Capoeira in particular I thought was stunning. There was something appropriate for every programme.

Well, we will all agree (I think) that compared to Oneness Rhythm and Movement was gold Very Happy
