There was a new start up piece of music used for stv in 1985. Never got used. I can't think of any other music that never got used.

Vibe Music Imaging produced some music for the 1999 ITV corporate look which I don't believe was ever used. It features in the background of this video...

Incidentally, this is all very BBC Two Artsnight (albeit minus 17 years) isn't it...?

That sting sounds very much like Channel 4's ident sting of the era.

Is that genuine? It looks like several presentation elements edited together.

It was used in early TV reports about the launch of Meridian. Perhaps it was an ident used on some sort of pre-launch promo video.

I think I've seen elements of the first bit of that used in their promos

Best place to mention this (probably)...

When the BBC had it's 'South East' review in the late 90's / early 00's, the new news programme for London was to be called 'BBC London Live' (to match what the local radio station was called at the time).

The titles were produced - and appeared on the internet later on - but never saw the light of day generally, as the whole 'tri-media' operation became the BBC LDN brand we all knew and loved 😉

The 'London Live' titles were of the Map style, and used to be on TV Home. They were mostly white however, with an orange London map with the Thames picked out - shame they seem to have disappeared! I thought they looked quite smart, except the name!

Here's the video. Time to dust off your Real codecs!

And a quick'n'dirty resize and reencode:

Brilliant. Compared to what was used, it all looks rather plain now!

Yes they definitely ended up with the better deal, the original BBC London/LDN branding was excellent

Aesthetically, yes, it did look great on screen, but from a brand point of view, I always thought LDN was a poor idea. There was the fundamental problem of having to explain to people (including the then Director General, so the story goes) that the programme wasn't called "BBC L.D.N." despite it saying that on screen.

Plus basing their big tri-media strategy so heavily around the visual LDN device meant it was never going to work on radio.
