That is true, but the channel itself must make money, the programming is very cheap, the playout is very basic and it broadcasts on ITVs DTT space.
It rakes it in
Not once of ITV's gifted slots though - it's the Crown Castle slot which IIRC ITV had to shell out something like £8m (annually?) for.

I don't think the actual channel itself is that profitable actually when you consider the level of prizes and ITV have to shell out millions for the slot- it's the overnight slots on ITV1 where the money is made.

Yep, I saw that. Until I know different seems like ITV only plan to have it off for 2 days

They could just be waiting for confirmation as to whether they will be broadcasting the next day or not - sometimes these things can take a long time, and it may be best to assume they will be going ahead as usual until they know officially.
As for the caption, it could be a bit more informative - ie: explaining the reason for suspension of programming, and also perhaps assuring viewers of the channel who had entered competitions recently that they will still be getting their money despite the channel being off air for the time being, and perhaps giving the telephone number/email address of the "Customer Care" department should those who entered the competitions have any concerns regarding their cheques.

Surprised the TwoWayTV software wasn't flagged up months ago considering the odds of even matching four numbers are high. You stand more chance of winning £10 on the National Lottery.

As unethical as they might be, I don't see any of the traditional ITV Play formats being too much of a problem - but Play DJ/Playalong should raise some questions when you have to spend £50 for a one in a billion chance of winning a tenner.

Aha yes, he has become the generic internet fat bloke (and I'm not talking about Nick Harvey!) .

There aren't normally ITV News bulletins during the night are there when they are simulcasting with ITV Play?
Surely this hurriedly revised schedule could have better viewing figures than the usual ITV Play rubbish (if not the same revenue).
It seems a shame that the 2 main terrestrial channels who touted themselves so loudly as "24-hour" in the 90s have been reduced to normally simulcasting one of their other channels during the night. Why not simply go back to closing down between midnight and 6am?

I agree, all the innovation has gone. The need to simulcast should disapeaar all together after DSO.

It's revenue that's important to them though - ratings are a means to that end, not an end in and of itself.
Because I'm willing to bet that BBC News 24 gets better ratings for the overnight slot - even in "digital households" - on BBC1 than it would & does on BBCN24 itself. And I'm **CERTAIN** ITV Play does.

The film averaged 300,000 viewers, on Monday night Glitterball averaged 200,000. Bear in mind this is over a few hours - both start high and decline gradually (with the film last night getting a good inheritance from the footy). The Sign Zone usually beats ITV1 at this time though.
There have been no changes to the news headlines - there is usually one a night, in between Play and the signed programmes. It was just brought forward quite considerably last night!
