Brainteaser though had increasingly turned into a blatent premium rate revenue generator, the programme spattered with paid opportunities to call in.
If the programme was less centred around paid viewer involvement they may have been more inclined to be honest and simply admit there was a technical problem. ie as it was, it probably appeared poor business sense to admit to the viewers that there may sometimes be any problem involved with phoning in.
However, it is of course this attitude in any paid service which bites you in the bum and then some if later unearthed.
Never try to pull the wool over the eyes of someone who's paid you for a service, unless you know you can bury the evidence really effectively.

I guess it's a format that has lost all credibility, and programmes like Brainteaser have suffered.
