I find it very difficult to believe that the presenters are not aware of the scam going on. I don't know this Greg person and have never seen his show, but i bet he knows that a large part of his wage comes from the poor saps that ring into these shows, the more that ring in the more commission he gets. I don't blame them they're contracted to sell the quiz and get people phoning in. If they didn't they would have no job therefore no food on the table and no roof over their heads and no stepping stone to better things within the TV fraternity. If the public are naive and gullible enough to fall for it then more fool them.

Mark my words: ITV Play will be back!
We may not instantly recognise it...it will have a different name, most likely it will drop "ITV" from its title...it will have a new set...but it will come from the same studio...they will change a few of the presenters...it will be back!

ITV will let the dust settle on this one. They'll watch the other channels die a death...then they'll be back.

And they will be relying on people to sit at home with their phones next to them thinking "I should phone-in...no one else will be calling because they all think it's a scam." Once they have a few thousand people thinking that...they're back in business.

I know there's lots of suggestions of what should replace it full time and although ITV Movies seems the likely candidate, I would like to see a live 24 hour channel in its place - news based but not as heavy as BBC N24 or SKY News.

It would be like a GMTV format. 10 minute news on the hour with entertainment. lifestyle and sport features. [/size]

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Bring back ITV Play! Bring back ITV Play! Surely a 24-hour GMTV channel would only be available - in HELL! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I don't understand why people keep talking about these channels like they are some sort of new concept, where people paying to play in a competition that they are unlikely to win, is something ITV have just invented

It's just like the lottery, or scratchcards, any sort of prize draw. What next "I lost £1000 buying scratchcards, never won, they should be banned"

If so why could people on Earth get ITV Play? Hell's too good for that.

And what makes you think it'll be more profitable next time? It's only the ITV1 and 2 simulcasts which have been making the money. That's why the channel itself has been axed. The whole premium rate phone call controversy has just been the final nail in the coffin - and provided a convenient time to bury the channel.

Well, it isn't really. Come on, no-one CHOOSES to be bombed, be it by the IRA, Al-Quaeda or any other terrorist organisation. However, people make the choice of picking up the phone, and dialling the number. Of course the presnters will try and sell the show - it's their job, but what they also do is tell you to set a budget, and stick to it. They go through it often enough - it's just greed on the part of people who get sucked into the show and become obsessed with dialling the number.

I was talking about this little line:

In fact, we have no reason to think that ITV Play was anything other than 100% honest.

I say again, how can anyone put the words "ITV Play" and "honest" in the same sentence?

What's dishonest about the format?

They tell you that you may not be able to win, they tell you how much it costs, and they tell you that you can enter for free on the web. Surely, if you use ONLY web entries, then you can't grumble.

If it'll make you happy, I'll say that ITV Play were the least dishonest of the lot.

Unless you have some inside information that you'd like to tell us about, the fact remains that ITV Play was more honest when it came to running competitions and phone-ins than Blue Peter, Saturday Kitchen and Brainteaser.

The three shows that I mentioned above had members of staff who made a choice to be dishonest to viewers, this wasn't a mistake like some of the incidents that have been reported recently (e.g X Factor red button voting), this was a choice made by at least one member of staff on each show to lie to viewers. As far as I know, no one has been sacked for any of these yet.

In compassion, the majority of employees of ITV Play which went through an audit and (as far as any of us know) was found to be honest and legal have probably lost their jobs.

Phone-in competitions are easy to fake, and it seems that some shows did fake them. If this makes you angry, direct your anger towards the dishonest shows, not ITV Play or Greg Scott who have lost much more than 75p.
