That spiel on Greg's website has made me lose any shred of respect I had for him. What a loser. A toast to ITV Play? Sad, penniless people paid you Greg, on a premise that they would be given a fair crack at winning a few pounds. You say you're going to pursue your hopes and dreams in other projects, which means you were a sell-out on ITV Play and Price-Drop TV.

Face it mate, you want to be the next Bruce, Les Dennis or Bob Monkhouse, but in reality you'll just be a sad, washed up former warm up act.

Oh yeah I forgot Greg and all the other presenters dragged these sad peniless people to the phone, forced them to dial a premium rate number, held them in place while time after time they were told they hadn't got through.
And then, in a shocking act, Greg and his mates threatened to kill innocent little puppies if they didnt ring over and over again.
There is only one person to blame for getting into debt by calling these rip of channels - the muppets who rang in, because believe it or not humans are built with brains meaning you can actually choose not to pick up a telephone despite the promise of cash, its called willpower!
I'm glad ITV Play has been axed, it was a stupid channel promoted by a stupid company but please don't attack the presenters who were just earning money to support their families, at the end of the day a job is a job.

I spent £9,000 on Quiz TV lines

Watching TV one night, bored, I saw this game show, it had easy questions...so I phoned it up and I won, first time lucky.

I won £600 to start with on a show that was on Sky.

Second time when I phoned the ITV The Mint up they kept putting me on hold and putting me on hold for about five minutes and then basically just turned round and said they were ending it and cut me straight back off, saying you haven't been successful this time.

I kept trying and trying and trying. Because it's easy money to be earned isn't it? Well I thought it was easy money to be earned, but it's not.

I've never done anything like this before and I won't do it again either.

When I got the phone bill I contacted them straight away. They turned around, say no it's not wrong, there's been no error in printing, or anything like that.

She said basically it's your fault. You've run this bill up so now you're going to have to pay it.

I took it to Citizens' Advice and they said there's nothing we can do, you've dug yourself in this hole, you can get yourself out of it.

There's nothing I can do about it. I've got to pay it basically.

They've got in contact with their bailiffs, they keep sending me warnings and threatening letters from bailiffs saying they are going to come and empty your property and all this, but they haven't been round yet.

They should have cut me off, they should have cut me off straight away. Instead of letting me run up this phone bill so high they should have cut me straight off.

Well what was he to expect? He could keep ringing and magically not run up a huge phone bill? I have little sympathy for the people who call in and seem to have a lack of intelligence over just how much of a phone bill they're running up.

I applaud the CAB and phone company for turning around and telling him that it's his own fault.

As much as these channels are/were iffy - the call charges are displayed clearly on screen, so he hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Well said, would the person that had a go at Greg rather that he was on the dole or the local drug dealer?

People have to make a living and the presenters are just doing their job. I doubt very much that most of them knew anything about it.

It's fantastic that ITV Play has been axed.

I know there's lots of suggestions of what should replace it full time and although ITV Movies seems the likely candidate, I would like to see a live 24 hour channel in its place - news based but not as heavy as BBC N24 or SKY News.

It would be like a GMTV format. 10 minute news on the hour with entertainment. lifestyle and sport features. The channel could 'react' to breaking news and perhaps could show sport, currently on ITV4, with ITV4 and Men and Motors programming merged.

6am-6pm - ITV Today and 6pm-6am - ITV Tonight.

What'd you think? (Polite suggestions please!) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I second that and I much preferred watching Greg to those quiz TV muppets who truly act as if they really are just doing it for the wage packet - "Give us a call now *stares blankely into screen*" i.e. the blonde skinny bimbos on Quizcall and that awful CashCall tripe.

Greg brings his own humour into his work and doesn't seem 'driven on'.

These [sad] people (me included before Quizmania moved to ITV) got what we paid for, a fair crack at winning a few pounds. Why be angry at Greg Scott?

You have to remember, each of the terestrial broadcasters have run dishonest competitions on their channels. As far as we know, ITV Play was more honest than the shows on the terestrial channels. In fact, we have no reason to think that ITV Play was anything other than 100% honest.

That's a bit like saying the IRA can bomb London, as they haven't killed as many people as al-Quaeda.

Well, it isn't really. Come on, no-one CHOOSES to be bombed, be it by the IRA, Al-Quaeda or any other terrorist organisation. However, people make the choice of picking up the phone, and dialling the number. Of course the presnters will try and sell the show - it's their job, but what they also do is tell you to set a budget, and stick to it. They go through it often enough - it's just greed on the part of people who get sucked into the show and become obsessed with dialling the number.

Surely the most likely candidate is increased promotion of Men&Motors and it's reinstatement on Freeview? It was retooled for an FTA relaunch and was on Freeview where it was quite popular.

It was only axed to make way for ITV Play when ITV saw a way of making more money for less outlay.

Now that ITV Play has been axed (incidentally, for once OFCOM appear to have shown some regulatory teeth. I'm pleased - and amazed. Hopefully it'll spread to the rest of their regulation) I'd imagine that Men&Motors will be back.

I was talking about this little line:

I say again, how can anyone put the words "ITV Play" and "honest" in the same sentence?
