Its hardly surprising that most of ITV play shows has been given the all clear!! ITV want these ‘cash cows’ back on air, so even if they found dodgy stuff going on, they would have sorted it all out (without telling the media) and then announce the shows are fine after all and get ITV Play etc back on air without anyone being any the wiser!!
It was an independent audit though, it wasn't ITV's decision
I was really hoping this was the beginning of the end.
It might well be, I don't think the quiz show/channel industry will recover fully from this.
Quote:
Why don't TV channels listen to their viewers anymore, virutally no one wants these channels anymore most people just want a good mixture of good drama, comedy, kids and factual.
People do watch and play such programmes though, if they didn't then they wouldn't exsist! The big apppeal for ITV in particular is that traditional programmes just aren't bringing in the money any more
Noticed this today on the Belfast Telagraph website about UTV's competitions:
UTV needs to grow up
Surprise, surprise, (to quote Cilla), the television company which treats its viewers like fools doesn't think the phone-in probe should apply to their inane competitions.
Of course, they also think that Sixties-style humour, in advance of the ITV flagship soap, Coronation Street, is still considered funny by the more sophisticated Ulster viewing audience of the 21st century.
As for the level of questions, if you make the answer too easy, it is considered to be a lottery, not a competition - as if they didn't know! Julian is probably a very nice guy in everyday life, but I just don't want his poor imitations of James Young on my TV four nights a week.
If UTV's 'competitions' continue to run as normal for local viewers I, for one, cannot wait for the onset of the new legislation.
Grow up, UTV, and treat your viewers with respect. With the onset of digital broadcasting you may find your audience simply outgrows you.
It wouldn't surprise me if ITV opted to axe the channel and instead keep the 'ITV Play' brand as an overnight slot on ITV1 and ITV2. Alternatively they could make radical changes to the channel, perhaps making ITV4 24hrs and reducing ITV Play hours to 6pm-6am.
I've no idea what ITV Play's revenue is during the daytime or evening, though if I recall it's the overnight ITV1 slot which makes the most money. Whilst I don't think it's the end for quiz channels I suspect the quiz probe will result in changes being made.
but is was ITV ( Mr grade) who got the independent people in to check everything
Yes, but that doesn't mean that the auditors will come up with a certain answer just because of who's employing them. They wouldn't be independent then
I also think this is a good chance for ITV to reassess the use of their space on Freeview. C4 certainly saw the writing on the wall some time ago and pulled out of the quiz channel scam. Perhaps ITV should cut their losses and just keep the overnight ITV1/2 programmes.
