Icstis spokesman:

  • All broadcasters "and their partners" will be contacted and asked to carry out their own reviews "as a complete priority" within 2 weeks.
  • Icstis will be carrying out regular inspections of premium-rate services in the future.
  • A "licensing scheme for all premium-rate services" will be introduced within 3 months.
  • Icstis will consider introducing a "trust mark" for broadcasters who have passed their checks.
  • Icstis "had a bit of unease" about Quiz TV because it wasn't clear "what the chances were of getting through" and is happy with the extra regulations it introduced.
  • Ofcom are happy "with how Icstis was handling this".
  • The "immediate concern" was "TV Quiz Shows" but they are now carrying out six investigations into reality television vote lines.
  • "I very much welcome the decision that [Michael Grade] has taken ... I don't feel that the industry is rushing around to hide things ... we should have their findings within a couple of weeks."

Also, I hear that Quizmania regular "Rob from Norwich" will be interviewed on Sky News at around 2:30.

Five admits faking quiz winners - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/08032007/397/five-admits-faking-quiz-winners-0.html

Quote:
Broadcaster Five has admitted faking competition winners after beginning a review of its premium rate phone services.

Daily lunchtime show Brainteaser asked viewers to solve a word puzzle within five minutes, but when viewers failed to get the right answer names were simply made up.

On one occasion a member of the production crew went on air posing as a "winning contestant".

The quiz is produced by Cheetah Television, a subsidiary of Big Brother makers Endemol UK, who contacted the broadcaster on Wednesday to warn them "irregularities" had been found.

I'm surprised it isn't Ian from Barnett being interviewed.

It will be interesting to see if Sky do an audit and unearth any wrong goings on their shows and channels. They were quite happy about reporting on ITV's problems yesterday.

Ironic isn't it that Craigy Blonde B****cks from ITV Play used to work for Brainteaser! A pure example of why this type of rubbish should be scrapped.

If I had it my way, I'd get rid of all premium rate quiz channels and programmes. Personally because I think they're ruining the purpose of Freeview amongst other things. Clearly, at present, that is not an option as companies refuse to let this profit making scam disappear.

I've got no problem with them keeping the competition quiz (i.e. on Dancing on Ice and other mainstream light entertainment shows) and voting lines - fair do's. I think however it is certainly important to make sure that THESE regulations are in correct order and viewers don't lose out. (this said on the pretence that the likes of ITV Play be scrapped as an alternative).

The utter crap that is churned out nightly on Smile TV, The Hits, and TMF must or certainly should be pooing themselves now!

Um, as the regulatory body in charge of premium-rate services, this statement makes you wonder what they hell they have been doing up until now?!

Cash Call on The Hits didn't go on air last night. That one's always looked suspicious to me.
