According to Claire Enders on Sky last night.BT won package B on Friday (the 2nd best pack, Saturday 5.30 with 9 first picks). So I imagine Sky panicked and went all out to get Package D (Sunday at 4pm) in round 2. If they had lost that it would have been a massive blow as that has 18 first picks.

Correction to my post it may have been the other pack they won on Friday. Telegraph have a piece with Enders which maps out what happened and doesn't seem to be disputed.

Would be interesting to know what the losing bids were - I wouldn't be surprised at all if the second round is just greedy tricks by the Premier League to panic Sky into paying more.

I think that would be illegal. The process is independently verified.

Further to this it seems that Barclays have pulled the plug on sponsorship from the end of the 2015-2016 season. Suggestions are that no one institution is likely to be able to afford the new fees that would be demanded, it seems the FAPL are inflating that too.

A Champions League style multi sponsor model is being considered.

Sky win short form clip rights from 2016-2019 but can on sell, so the digital pack add on value Times and Sun App services will continue. It'll be interesting as to how Sky exploit their own access to these goal packages.

Wonder if it means Sky can offer them on demand as well. They seem to get them really cheap too - no pricing announced on this deal but the last was worth £20m - whether that's over three years or annual they seem a bargain in comparison to the live match fees.

EDIT: Moved to Sport Thread.
