ITV unveils £6m 'Prehistoric Park' series
ITV has unveiled its new £6 million drama documentary Prehistoric Park.

The six-part series - two years in the making - follows naturalist Nigel Marven as he travels back in time to rescue exotic creatures from the brink of extinction... More

Having just seen Pirates of the Caribbean (very fab), I also saw one of the first trailers for a new "drama" for ITV1. With a name that sounds very orignal... And CGI effects that looked very poor (as in you can tell is CGI at first glance) it seems ITV are trying to remake Jurassic Park / Walking With Dinos... Made by FremantleMedia and spread over 6 1hour episodes that will also air on TV2 in Denmark; TV4 in Sweden; TV Norge in Norway; Nederland 3 in Netherlands and Channel 4 in Finland.

It wasn't MADE by Fremantle - that just says it was being distributed by them.

Impossible Pictures were the production company behind it, they also made the Walking With series...

ITV have no original ideas left. Saturday Cooks was copied from Saturday Kitchen. Prehistoric Park is a copy of the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs. They even have Nigel Marvin who presented a Dinosaur Special on BBC1 in similar style three years ago! Bore, bore, bore!!!

When is ITV going to be great again? Even Emmerdale is repeating itself all the time with explosion and death after explosion and death after explosion and death!!!

During Walking with Dinosaurs I recall many people saying "What a great show, why can't ITV make stuff like this"

I wasn't aware that once BBC1 made Walking with Dinosaurs that they automatically had rights to every future programme in the same genre

If this was the case, then what are BBC1 playing at showing EastEnders, its just Coronation Street down south!

Yet more writing off of a new series months before it airs Rolling Eyes

It sounds a bit like a version of 'Doctor Who' to me - dare I bring that programme into yet another topic :s.

Primieval, a sci-fi drama, was supposedly going to be ITV's answer to Doctor Who, and would feature CGI dinosaurs. Have they dropped the idea and produced this instead?

Did people really have to ask that question?

I'm not one to stick up for ITV, but actually I'd take issue with this. In the mid 90's, Granada produced a series called Dinosaur which was basically Walking With Dinosaurs with slightly less impressive graphics.

I've always thought that Walking with Dinosaurs was a rip off of that show. So in this case, ITV got there first.

As for Dancing on Ice, well lets not forget that Strictly Come Dancing was basically Pop Idol but with ballroom dancing. Doesn't seem as original when you think of it like that.

This is undoubtedly derivative rather than innovative, but ITV should be given some credit for it- it's going to be better quality than the rest of its output.

But here's the crucial issue- this was commissioned in 2003- can anyone honestly come on this forum and say that such a project would get picked up by ITV in 2006?

No chance.
