Also, why do ITV still insist on splitting Tuesday night programmes such as First Love, Second Chance and "All New" Naughtiest Blunders 245 with the News at Ten Thirty?

Is it really worth it?

It was that type of attitude that got them in this mess in the first place.

I seriously don't see why ITV think they can get away with this, it is the main reason why they axed the original News At Ten in the first place, but now it seems to be getting more regular, fair enough on the odd Movie, but otherwise it is pathetic. If ITV had any sense they would let the football run until 10.00pm rather than 9.45pm, then just stick a filler on at 10.00pm, such as Tarrant on TV or something like that.

What would be a better idea is to have a half hour show at 9.00pm and then an hour long show at 9.30pm, which would lead straight into News At 10:30 and probably increase the viewing figures.

It's not the fixed bulletin I'm complaining about, it's the scheduling of the programme around it. Can't they just schedule a 30 min prog at 10pm.

( though I do think that when football airs they should be allowed to delay the news 15 minutes to allow an hour-long programme at 9.45pm )

Oh right Embarassed
re: splitting the programme, It seems like a good idea to me in terms of ratings. If they get a good show and have half before the news its more likely that the audience will watch the news and then the 11pm slot as well. Therefore that hour long programme actually holds the audience for 90 minutes (although in reality the audience drops for the second half, I would think it's still higher than if they had a different programme in the 11pm slot)

Im not sure I agree. I havent got any figures to back me up here, but I'd imagine most people who've been at work all day wouldnt really be bothered to stick around for half an hour to see the end of such a programme. Granted, if its a film premiere maybe, but not this kind of filler programme. This is just sloppy scheduling from ITV. The news has been in that slot for over a year now - youd think that in that time someone would have a brainwave and commision a half hour programme to fill that slot, instead of relying on cut and paste jobs of "all new" naughty blunders 36451! Scheduling the documentary against Holby City and Location x 3 was also a stupid decision. Although I dont care about regional programmes, this is the sort of thing that killed them off - putting them out against Eastenders. How long will it be before ITV decide to axe all factual programming because it doesnt pull in the viewers - what do they expect with the slots they provide and a schedule dominated 6 days of the week with soaps?!

No wonder their ratings have collapsed in recent years!

Well what else could they do, apart from drop the documentary altogether, last week they gave it the 9pm slot and it only got 2.7million and a 12% share, so it had to be moved. Which slot could they use for factual programming if it doesn't even work in the 9pm slot?
