Hi,

As an avid web visitor of TV Home, I notice that BBC tends to experience a lot of power failures for a television station.

In addition to the various "power failures" listed on the site, BBC had power failure during the launch of BBC 2 and to the recent relaunch of BBC News 24.

Are these just coincidences, bad weather, bad luck, or technological problems?

I am in Canada, and I rarely hared or read about power failures in local Canadian and American television stations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There were also ones in 2000 and 2001 almost exactly a year away of each other, causing people to joke about an 'annual power failure' . As far as I'm aware of they are all coincidences.

Co-incidences, They were all caused by diffrent things:
The first one was a mains failiure (and faulty backup), the second was a complete internal failure of TV Centre and the one the other week was a fault just within the news part of the building (nothing else was affected).

Given that the launch of BBC TWO which was affected by a power cut was in 1964, I think it's a little unfair to include it in the list!

A rather odd statement, if I may say so, Sir.

The world DID exist prior to 1980, you know!

And what about when the BBC had to close down BBC-1 and BBC-2 early due to the rotating power black outs of the three day week in the infamous Heath-Barber-Walker 1970s, and people were concerned that there were going to be lots of extra babies arriving in 9 months time?

Glad to hear it, otherwise I would have been the figment of my own imagination for a number of years.

Corin, didn't the BBC and ITV (in the days when they worked together!) have to ask the Prime Minister for a special exemption from the 10.00 (I think) closedown for Christmas 1973?
