Just wondered if it was worth a general thread on power of advertising. On the way to work this morning, Terry Wogan played the Drifters - Come on over to my place. What did i sing? "Hey you, we're having a Wimpey!"
How long ago was that advert on TV, and who else instintively sins the altered words? its almost a "I'm a Cadbury's fruit and nutcase moment".
I'm sure someone can work out the return on money spent on the original ad.
I occasionally whistle the R.Whites Lemonade advert when i see one in a shop somewhere. Yes they still make it! Even though i wasn't actually born when the advert came out!
I used to feel like a kit kat everytime I got the bus home from town - then one day I noticed a huge poster advertising kit kat just across from the bus stop.
Derren Brown showed how poster advertisments work subliminally in one of his shows (where he got some advertising types to 'think up' an image for an advert, but in fact everything they came up with they'd already seen on posters and drawings planted by Brown for them to see from their taxi on route to their office).
Presumably TV advertising works the same way - ie, subliminally. Even though there are supposed to be laws to stop it being subliminal...
