I might be wrong, but is this the first time Fourscore's been back on the idents since 1992?

They used the original idents for the 25th anniversary 10 years ago but apart from that Fourscore has not been heard since 1992.

David Dundas still makes alot of money from that tune.

They might well have bought him out or done some sort of deal for it. It's different to the original idents though as now it's just the notes in a different arrangement, not his original composition

So you're saying Channel 4 wanted more but the people who made them didn't want to?

What I'm saying is, there was a lot more pressure to be 'different' due to the 'scary' brief that was given to them. Hence the broken up logo and avant-garde arthouse type idents.

I know the backstory behind them. I was just wondering why more weren't made to continue the story, since Channel 4 chose them.

Perhaps they quickly realised that for the members of the viewing public who hadn't read the press release and had the story explained, the idents were totally meaningless, and so figured it wasn't worth throwing good money after bad by making any more.

Perhaps block man idents are just temporary

Wow 10 years since the 25th Anniversary. That is scary.

As good as they are.... nothing can yet touch the original Channel 4 idents. Black background, the logo comes together, 4 beats and announcer speaks and done.
Simple and effective.

That's a lot of VFX money for 'temporary' ...

Tokyo is probably the greatest single ident ever made

But what makes it less impressive is that it was made in the 00's. But the originals were made in the early 80's when no other channel had this technology in the uk

Neither did Channel 4.
The original idents were done in Los Angeles, by a Hollywood graphics facilities company.

There is another 'nod' to the past with the 4 giant.
The original 4 blocks were supposed to be chrome/silver, but were changed to colour at the last minute.

Yep they had to go all the way there just to make the idents. As I said there was nothing like that in the uk yet. For me, nothing can touch the originals because so much thought and passion went into them and in their day were a symbol for being different from everything else at that time.

What a huge shame that they had that little confidence.
