Yes interesting news isn't it... if LNN relocated to GIR then what would happen to that fantastic studio that London Tonight uses?

I guess it would return to LWT / London Studios who run the other studios in the Southbank building? I expect it would be a very popular studio for 3rd party use - it has the best backdrop in London doesn't it?!

From what I have seen it does. I have been past it recently and it is in a good place, as it is next door to the OXO building, it is adjacent to the River Thames, St Paul's Cathedral is in the back ground, so is one of the bridges, you can also see from another end, the London Eye, Westminster and the building where The Terry and Gaby Show comes from. So I guess they are in a nice location.

It's a great studio, but not used to its full potential now. The part behind the newsdesk points out at an angle towards St Pauls. but there is a longer window parallel to the river which is not seen on air now.

You can't see The London Eye or County Hall (where T&G comes from) from the London Tonight studio as it is too far around the bend in the river.

The studio up the tower (probably not there any more) had a much nicer view, but without such a panorama

The 13th is the suite where you have your leaving do, nowadays, Larry.

Don't think there's still a studio on the 13th, but could be wrong.

It's not listed on their web-site. They've got another 2 river facing studios on site so it probably wasn't worth keeping it.

If that's where leaving dos take place it'll probably be very busy soon? Twisted Evil

As far as I know, the 13th is now the ITV Promotions Unit.

No studios there...

I believe that you're thinking of the 18th floor, Nick. Laughing

Ah, yes, that sounds better.

Did I just shorten the tower by five floors?

Must have been for that low flying pigeon!

Then again, maybe the 18th floor is only offered for leaving parties for those REALLY special people and the 13th floor is the norm!
Anyway, back to the original topic - has any more come of the rumour regarding LNN or is it another story to fill an otherwise quiet week?

Granada has rebuffed suggestions that London News Network, the regional news operation it co-owns with Carlton, is about to be sold to ITN.

A Granada spokeswoman would only say that the broadcaster was currently “reviewing how these services are provided, but no firm decisions have been made”.

She added: “There are no plans to sell LNN to ITN. Our review of how these services are provided is no different to how we review all parts of our programming spend in all genres and is an ongoing process.”

Granada would not elaborate on the review.

ITN also said there “was not anything of that nature” taking place. A source said: “There are conversations going on between us and ITV about how we develop further our relationship based on what we do with the news channel — and to develop regional relationships — but that’s certainly not like a purchase of LNN.”

Unions are calling for urgent talks with ITV managers over the future of staff at London News Network (LNN) after it was revealed that ITN is in renewed talks to take over the running of the news operation.

LNN staff are said to be "in revolt" about the news that ITN and Carlton and Granada - which jointly own LNN - are in "very advanced negotiations" over the plans. Broadcast understands that a deal may be struck within the next few days.

The deal could see a number of job losses and force some staff to move from their current South Bank offices to ITN's Gray's Inn Road base. LNN employs 260 staff, with 130 of them in the news operation. News sources have described the atmosphere in the newsroom as "volatile" and moves are being made to try to calm the situation down.
