Central (West) Midlands Today
First of all, Happy Birthday!

Second, this lists some TV news from the year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_in_British_television#Returning_this_year_after_a_break_of_one_year_or_longer

That may hold some answers, it doesn't seem to show a lot of big new shows, though a lot of channels pushed things at the end of 1999 to lead into the new millennium; the launch of Big Brother, BBC's Castaway, Doctors and The Weakest Link.

ITV held the day of promise (to this day I'm unsure what the company got out of that, it was a telethon to pledge promises rather than money) [EDIT: Here's the opening to explain]

Channel 5 aired Naked Jungle using the set of CITV programme Jungle Run.

In News, BBC Breakfast took over from BBC Breakfast News, the ITN News Channel launched and Sky News introduced it's first ticker.

"make a mark on history", apparently.

Although looking at some of the promises on the featured plaque, quite what some people were on is even more mystifying than what ITV were going to get out of the scheme. But yes, it was a very strange thing that died on its arse.
