regional programme that the late Tony Wilson once presented?

I think that was So It Goes , wasn't it? That was pretty radical, and Tony Wilson often claimed he was the first to bring the likes of the Sex Pistols on to telly. Sadly the series was discontinued after dispute over Iggy Pop's swearing, if I rightly recall Laughing

They did do a pilot for Channel M called The New Friday which would have been hosted by Wilson and showcased new music talent, but due to Wilson's illness and death the one episode was made. But if you look at Channel M they have alot of music shows, even when they show Videos they rarely show any mainstream music.

If they can do it, why can't others?

the whole story is based on the desire of an unnamed "music executive".

Hardly un-named, Simon Cowell has quite publicly said he would buy the rights to it and stick it on ITV.

Must admit, although I now live in NL, I do still watch a lot of Channel M mainly for the music and Greater Manchester news! y favourite programme is actually I love Manchester - never realised there was so much to my 2nd old home county!! (first being Lancashire, as in Bolton, Lancashire!)

Mulder,

Do you mean something like The Tube or the regional programme that the late Tony Wilson once presented?

More or less. Somebody needs to be out there really looking at what is developing on it's own and report on it from a neutral position - that's what media and journalism should do. Unfortunately most of the media out there and the music industry tries to push us into following one thing and they also try to create the next big thing instead of just finding it in the underground.

There is a massive scene growing around Dubstep music in this country at the moment but you won't hear much about it on T4 I'd think, despite Coki and Benga having a record playlisted on Radio 1 not long ago.

Quite frankly British music is in a better state than it has been for numerous years.

DISCLAIMER : The following rant is in no way aimed at Brekkie, it's just that his comment has prompted me to vent something that's been brewing for a couple of weeks now Wink

That really does depend where you sit Brekkie. Underground is mostly OK, as always, however overground it's HORRENDOUSLY BAD IMO.

LOL - don't worry. I only got that far before I got the Wombles theme tune stuck in my head so the rest was just a blur!

Haha, yes I see what you mean Smile
