Great news.
Although I do question the reality of this - ie. did they plan to show it anyway?
The comments on the BBC News article says it will be a centrepiece but remember when the BBC said it was axed a few weeks ago saying that TOTP is out of touch and no longer needed? Hmm.

I know it's probably a cynical thought but seeing the way the BBC spun that Antiques Roadshow story to get big ratings, it just makes you think they did the same thing here. After all it's very short notice to bring it back, plans must have been in place for some time now to secure talent.
Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm surprised Sir Jimmy is excited it's coming back
then again I suppose at his time of life he'd be excited if Fearne Cotton turned up on his doorstep and gave him a foot massage.
Still, at least it's coming back at Christmas thats the main thing!

So what was going to be shown at 2 on Xmas Day that isn't now?

Slightly cynical view perhaps, but does anyone think they might not have been so quick to make a u-turn on this had the whole Ross/Brand saga not been blown so much out of proportion? The story that TOTP would not be coming back broke just before the full extent of the fallout from Ross/Brand was known. Then we had rumours that TOTP would be back as a 'public service', and now, hey presto, it's back for Christmas. As a sort of Christmas present to viewers, no less. An old favourite back in its rightful place.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's back! I just wonder whether it would have happened had the BBC's 'public service' credentials not been under so much critical scrutiny over the past few weeks.

Oh, not Fearne Cotton! She's terrible. Wasn't she one of the factors which killed off Top Of The Pops? She was with me. She is talentless. Hopefully with her on the BBC, she will have to stop her ITV commitments. With any luck.
