Goodbye TOTP Sad Sad Sad

The studio was good - but why the cheesy ending? The beeb can do better than that!

I had a weird dream about the final epi of TOTP last night.

I dreamt that Sir Jimmy sang 'Jim'll Fix it', DLT did his Superscouse/ GB convoy, Pat Sharp revived I Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet , Terry Wogan did the Floral Dance and Steve Wright sang Rat Rapping .

More of a nightmare really-- but better than the actual final epi. I should really watch less TV!! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Though ironically, that would have been a better 60 minutes of television than last night's programme.

A bit of an idea I had that could well have saved the programme...:

TOTP was shown on a Sunday evening , and that about 30 mins before the programme starts the new charts are released on Radio 1.I wonder if it would have been possible for the charts to have been delayed in their release so that TOTP would be able to exclusively reveal the new charts on the programme....that may well have got a few more viewers.

Also , another idea would to make use of the open air gig format more often (sort the license out first) , and to have the program over one hour.

Well I reckon BBC chiefs are deep down having second thoughts about axing the programme judging by the end of that revised documentary last night.

Maybe they should liven up the lights turning off endings by having daleks and cybermen do it!

Who did you get that impression from? Jana Bennett?

I think the fact that it will return on Christmas day is an indication that it simply too strong a brand for the BBC to discard. I have a feeling it will end up like 'News at Ten'. A Popular brand foolishly dropped but revived in one shape or another.

Why couldn't they have shifted the whole show to Saturday morning, aim it at the kids but maybe with a spin off show aimed at the adults, broadcast at teatime on Saturday evening on BBC1. Jools Holland is just slightly too pretenious for some people to watch.

They had TOTP Saturday, and that was ****!

Though I agree with your point about TOTP being too big a name for the Beeb to rubbish, as they are demonstrating for Xmas.

Wasn't there a TOTP clone show on Sunday lunchtimes? I'm going for around the late 90s era. This not to be confused with another music show called the O Zone.

Wasn't that TOTP Play, only on BBC2?

I think TOTP is now dormant rather than extinct. Well they have fully re-instated Dr Who after 15 years... so who knows?
