Blimey all that late 80's clips (Yazz) makes me feel old now. Even got my second wind of clubbing in (post divorce Laughing ) with Miss Twain and Ricky Martin from 1998/9.

Madonna now!!! Laughing

Quite sad. I grew up watching TOTP, but I stopped watching in 2001 when I started watching corrie instead. I still think if the BBC hadn't moved TOTP in 1996, we wouldn't have just seen the last ever episode.

Is it me, or did Savile fluff up the last link, by saying "It's number one, it's still Top Of The Pops", as opposed to "It's still number one, it's Top Of The Pops"?

Yes he did, and I was expecting more from the final lights being turned out sequence. Oh well.

Overall a bit of a pig's ear of a show, I thought. And not even the tiniest clip of the Pet Shop Boys, the most successful duo in UK chart history who've had over 30 top 20 singles, and have had some fantastic appearances on TOTP over the years.

I'm sad it's all over.

You could tell that Sir Jim was heartbroken in the final scene turning out the light.

All in all, a nice send-off. I can forgive the fact the same regular TOTP clips were dusted down, and it was a shame that Babs Lord-Powell was the only member of any of the dance troupes to return for the last show, and a few spelling mistakes (Marylin Manson?).

RIP TOTP 1/1/1964-30/7/2006.

"Its Number one, its still Top of the Pops."

Quite solemn at the end there with Sir Jimmy turning out the lights for the final time.

I've never really seen Janice Long presenting (a bit before my time) but she seems a true professional.

So there we are, 42 years of history ended. Could it have continued? I reckon with a major revamp and style change, a new BBC1 time slot, it probably would have not faced the axe but it would have had to blend with the digital age.

Well.....

I am very surprised that the BBC let the sound on those mic's go out like that.....

When it was being recorded on Wednesday night, they had *great* concerns over the sound quality on them (they were not just props, but real ancient mic's from TOTP past!) - Janice Long's mic kept cutting out altogether at one point and they had to keep stopping and starting all the time. You could hear in the studio that the quality of the speech from those presenters mics was bad - but I didn't realise it was *that* bad !!!

And yes - we were told that they filmed a time lapse piece as all the audience and crew filtered out - then it was to end with Jimmy turning off the lights. They played a Queen track - "We are the Champions" whilst we were all walking out - this would have been great if they used it ! Never mind.

Oh well - that's that then.

Until "The best of 2006" TOTP special at "the end of the year" - did they mention this on broadcast tonight? I can't remember?? It was definately recorded in the final link in studio on Weds night......

I wouldn't be suprised to find that was done by getting the clips from TOTP2 episodes rather than actually going through the archives to get footage.
