Pop Idol to make a comeback?

I think it's a case of Teletext putting two and two together myself, but it's still possible.

Anyhow, three years since ITV effectively axed it they have now lost the rights to Pop Idol, opening up the possibility of another station broadcasting the format, with Five and Sky One rumoured possibilities.

However, these versions would be without Simon Cowell - and Ant and Dec - who are tied to ITV.

Anyone know how this affects ITV2 broadcasting American Idol?

I shouldn't affect ITV2's boradcasting of American Idol at all, as it will still have the rights to it.

I doubt Five would bother buying the format when they can just produce their own cheap and tacky version, like that talent show they are showing at the moment

I'm afraid so. Broadcast were today reporting online that Simon Fuller is taking bids on a 'relaunched version' of Pop Idol, as ITV's option on the format expired. It doesn't surprise me really, The X Factor seems to be creating enough cash for them for now.

so Simon Fuller want more money?

with the X factor we got some a bit different, groups, older people, it prove you didn't have to under 22 to a great singer!

I can;t see anyone doing a pop Idol show!

And without most of the production team as well I'd guess - most of whom are making X factor.

A rhetorical question if ever there was one.

Probably. They're as bad as each other.

It's unlikely to come back on the BBC. I seem to remember that they were told not to show any more programmes like Fame Academy, because of their lack of PSB commitments (wasn't this part of the tv licence review?)
