Simple question. Do you think Points Of View provides an adequet platform for TV discussion in the 21st century?

Personally, I can't believe that while television has developed over the past 40 years, the BBC are still using the format which they have been using since the 1960's.

It's hosted by Terry Wogan, one of the very few people left who call the BBC "Auntie", and attracts a particular type of audience which I don't think is representative of the entire viewership.

First, let me thank for your starting this topic.

I believe the type of audience Points of View appeals to, is in fact, the very people who contribute most to the BBC (the middle classes)

Anybody else, (especially those who don't pay the license fee) should not be allowed to have an opinion.

I understand that "Lord Wellington" is some sort of character you've created to post in this manner, but it's really starting to grate on me.

Well POV is a bit of a waste of time lately, all it seems to be is.

Viewer: I thought Programme X was rubbish the worst thing I've ever seen
Terry: Steady on, surely it wasn't that bad!.
Viewer: I really liked Programme Y
Terry: Other people liked it too, lets go behind the scenes...!

Why should yobs on council estates who get their license fee paid by the council (and I know many who do - it gets payed for them if they claim they can't afford it) have a say in the direction of a public service I pay for?

A completely ridiculous and badly researched argument which could be applied to every government funded institution.

In what way is it badly researched?

Why should those who contribute nothing or very little have input into the direction of a public service I pay for?

I also would just like to add, that I truely believe that those who do not pay tax, should not be allowed to vote. This includes those on income support. These people have no right to determine the democracy *I* live in.

Because as far as I see, you are claiming that only middle class people contribute to the BBC. Rolling Eyes

Whether you're winding me up or not, I'm trying my best not to get very angry with your statements. "Lord Wellington" appears to be a very narrow minded individual who has no understanding of the other side of what he's talking about. Whether or not there is a real person behind him who shares his views, is questionable.

Anyway, this discussion has nothing to do with the main topic. I didn't suggest that Points Of View attracts only middle class people. It attracts a certain type of person who has certain opinions.

Over on the POV forum the latest programme under attack is Dick & Dom.

There are few chanels/broadcasters that have on-air feedback... the only other I know of is Sky Backchat, which isn't really any better at tackling the issues.

Face it, one persons view doesn't really matter anyway.

That reminds me of a certain fictional Tory MP. the main character of "The New Statesman" . . .

As Alan B'Stard, Member of Parliament for Haltemprice, once said . . .

I say Points of View should be 30mins long and should cover announcments about up coming programmes and services, as well as the usual complaints and compliments
