Former RI:SE, 11 O'Clock Show presenter and radio favourite Iain Lee is hosting an experimental online TV show. Right now!

Could we see more of the nations favourite out of work stars producing content and delivering that content direct to viewers?

Didn't Cheggers do something similar to this a few years ago?

I don't like live Internet broadcasts. What happened to the good old telly?

www.cheggersbedroom.com, I remember it being quite good but I can't really remember what he did. Mainly shout outs and competitions I think. I know I won a few bits and pieces. I expect the number of viewers was quite low. They held a premium rate phone competition to win a holiday to Florida which they promoted quite a bit for a couple of weeks. After the competition closed Keith Chegwin picked the winner from a bin containing all the entries. There can't have been more than about 50 entries in there. You could also purchase an MP3 of the theme tune (written and sung by Keith Chegwin) for £1 IIRC. I think it only ended when the self operated vision mixing desk failed. I expect they didn't think it was worth buying a new one.

It would be so much easier to do that kind of thing now of course. This was back in the days of 56k modems and I think Keith Chegwin had the backing of an IPTV company (if IPTV was a term that even existed back then). I expect Iain Lee can achieve similar results now on his own using off the shelf equipment and free software.

It still exists. But there are other methods to distribute content now. It's not as if this is content that would have been on telly had the internet not existed.

Here's the pilot now, for those who are interested.

As a huge fan of Iain's over the years I'm happy that he's done this, it was better than I expected it'd be, although there were obviously a few technical hitches to overcome which I think they'll be working on for the next one. The sound in particular was very ropey, couldn't hear some of the Skype calls at all.

But yeah, great start. It'd be cool for other people to send content in and interact like that.
