ITV never advertise the presence of their +1 channel, even on occasions when it might be useful, such as tonight when you could have watched SNT at the normal start time on +1.

Do other broadcasters advertise their +1 channel, like Channel 4 for example?

Anyone know the reason for this, almost like they have the channels, but doesn't seem to want to let anyone know about them.

Yes but you couldn't have done any of the live events on +1. Like Sofawatch for example.

As to their presence, that's why we have EPGs. Channel 4+1 was heavily tooted when it launched and is still referenced occasionally but not often. Anyway it crops up on those disclaimer captions, "do not respond if you're watching +1". Same with ITV, there's a message on the BGT astons saying don't call us if you're watching on +1 so it's not like it's totally unmentioned.

I can't say I've seen ITV+1 advertised at all since it launched. C4 and E4 certainly refer to it occassionally in continuity.

In ITV's case I wonder if it's because of the wrong adverts many viewers would get. It would annoy advertisers who book on a regional basis if ITV were actively telling viewers to watch another region, and could effect the rates the advertisers pay?

I've never understood why they have those disclaimers on competitions that run for a few days or a week. Why does it matter where I watch it as long as I enter before the closing date?

Presumably arse-covering in the wake of the quiz scandals a few years ago...

But why would they roll the credits for a show and say 'Coming up on +1 is the show you just watched'?

True, in such cases watching on +1 won't matter. But watching on demand, which stays available for 30 days usually, almost always would need the disclaimer. Most competitions don't stay open THAT long. Same night voting (i.e. BGT and X Factor), the lines would be closed before the end of the +1 airing though, and the disclaimer is definitely needed there. I think they just use the same disclaimer on everything - and Neil probably hit the nail on the head about why.

I think most ITV regions have their own +1 these days. Advertisers should be more worried about viewers being directed to an incorrect HD region.

In Plymouth we get the correct +1 channel, but the HD version is Central on Sky (I think it's ITV Wales on Freeview/Freesat).

They wouldn't would they? Because the +1 channel would also carry that announcement and some dull ITV viewers would start looking for the +2 channel.

(Remember these are the same ITV viewers who told Daybreak or GMB that they'd forgotten to put their clock back/forward but were watching on +1)

Channel 4 have done this - "if you're just tuning in now, you can catch [programme] from the start on 4+1".
