"The BBC's natural history unit embarks on the most ambitious series it has ever produced, celebrating planet Earth in all its astonishing beauty."

I have got really high hopes for this 11-part series. Hopefully it will go down as one of the epic natural history series'. If the trails and the website, www.bbc.co.uk/planetearth are anything to go by, we're in for a real treat.

The imagery looks fantastic, and surely David Attenborough will add his usual touch of magic. I would expect a superb musical score as well.

I hope it's of the usual BBC high standard when it comes to these type of things and not just another simple wildlife programme.

I should imagine they're looking for an excuse to do another 'Blue Planet' series.

Trouble is, this planet really isn't just about wildlife, sunshine and blue sea. How much of this programme is all neat camera work?

I saw a preview of this yesterday (see my post in the "BBC Two is changing" thread and guess how), and it looks spectacular. There's super slow-motion of a big shark eating a seal, and seals essentially surfing.

Vaguely interestingly, apparently they invented a special camera stabiliser that uses oil especially for the series, so they can zoom in more than usual and get more "natural" behaviour from the animals.

The programme is spectacular, I've been fortunate to see the first two episodes through work and was blown away.

CBBC's Xchange has a cameraman from the series on on Monday morning, 7.30am, CBBC Channel Wink

This was great, to be able to get a real insight into what goes on in the deserts, jungles and so forth with such great shots. The aerial views are superb, seeing whole herds cross the land, and a look at the hunting dogs' strategy in catching prey which was excellent; I really enjoyed it.
