Pinky and Perky first appeared on the BBC in 1957 and attracted audiences of 15 million at their peak.

There have been several largely abortive attempts to revive them since their show finished in 1973.


The puppet duo were huge television stars in their heyday
They include an adult show at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival entitled Sex, Drugs and Bacon Roll.

Produced by Lupus Films, the new 52-part series will begin on CBBC towards the end of 2008.

The production company said the snout-nosed duo would be "the same, but different".

CBBC creative director Anne Gilchrist said: "We're very excited that CBBC viewers will be able to enjoy this high energy reinvention of a classic brand."

Oh please no.

Things just aren't the same if they're computer generated. Physically, these new versions of Pinky and Perky won't exist, so it won't create anything like the excitement of the original puppets.

And to me, this seems to be a "we can't think of anything new to put on, so let's bring back something old, make it cool again by putting it in jeans, sunglasses and some bling, and reduce it to a string of binary numbers in a crummy little Dell workstation somewhere" case.

Pinky and Perky have always been some form of retarded idea made real, this shouldn't be any different if several attempts to retry this idea since '73 have met with a wall of indifference.

But for me, I won't and can't knock it given I have little to no interest in the concept and I'm the wrong age group so my opinion is quickly discounted.

It's a shame Pinky and Perky, along with Basil Brush, Postman Pat and others, are referred to as "brands" rather than characters.

I don;t think the Classic Pat has anything on this New pat, also Branch line train service, now that not very morden and up to date is it!
