Sounds terrible but isn't he getting on a bit?
I was thinking Richard Bacon would be a good choice.
Maybe Nicky Campbell?
I can't Nicky Campbell leaving 5 Live Breakfast.
I could see Richard taking the job.
Two words: Richard Madeley.

Im not sure if the number of complaints OFCOM received was mentioned. 41,000 geez

I can't see Nicky leaving a breakfast radio show which rates better than GMB. Radio is still where the audience is during breakfast time.

Richard Bacon is based in LA now IIRC not sure if Nicky Campbell would be interested either.

GM
Someone who I have thought would be good on GMB is Tom Bradby. I'm not a fan of his style on News at Ten at all, but there's no denying he's a good broadcaster. He obviously has loads of experience dealing with politicians, and he could give the programme a bit of gravitas. Of course he has presented on GMB before, after an Election Night (possibly 2015?)
Obviously this is just my opinion.

In itself the number is irrelevant.

Isn't the problem there just isn't a sufficient audience for two early morning straight news shows on linear TV?
But I think for the show to continue being a competitor against Breakfast, they really do need another right-wing commentator to balance out the other presenters, yet without the negative elements that Piers brought into the show over recent weeks.
Is Piers a 'right-wing' commentator? I'm not sure you can pigeon hole his politics like that. It's certainly not a view of the world you can hold as editor of The Mirror.
Piers was it's main selling point and before he came along it was ticking along not really making much fuss, but it was and still is different - more brash and bright, fast paced and tabloid than its rival. It will be able to continue with some of the audience that it's built over the last few years, it doesn't need another Piers, it just needs to be good.
Yep - in a lot of areas the traditional left/right split has gone and you have splits within the two main parties, e.g. globalisation versus nationalism, or simply age. (For what it's worth I thought his recent book was pretty reasonable. I just don't have the energy to tune in and watch people getting outraged about things early in the morning, for the same reasons I choose never to listen to LBC or Talk Radio.)
My hunch, like others, would be he'll be signed up by GB News.
Were most of the viewers he brought to GMB new, or switching from BBC One?

SP
On the assumption that there is nothing to say it needs to be a male replacement, what odds on this becoming an opportunity for a fresh start for Kay Burley?
Or Emma Barnett would be excellent.
