But I think for the show to continue being a competitor against Breakfast, they really do need another right-wing commentator to balance out the other presenters, yet without the negative elements that Piers brought into the show over recent weeks.

Is Piers a 'right-wing' commentator? I'm not sure you can pigeon hole his politics like that. It's certainly not a view of the world you can hold as editor of The Mirror.

I think Piers flip flops depending on whether there's a big enough crowd to cheer him on.

Talking of which, I hope this brings a bit of humility to certain members of the GMB editorial team who constantly wave their dicks about on Twitter when they get good ratings news or a scoop. There are a lot of people on that production that have gleefully enabled Piers and it's nothing to be proud about.

Piers Morgan will not appear on GMB tomorrow. (Confirmed by GMB). So, it looks like he's gone gone.

Also confirmed by Lorraine on The One Show just now.

If nothing else at least ITV have now finally got Britain talking.

UKTV? Has Adam let the cat out of the bag with the name of News UK's TV channel?
In which case BBC Studios Worldwide/Discovery Networks will have something to say about that.

Unless, he is going to present a series for Gold.

Or they're resurrecting In Conversation with... on W

I would totally guess that Piers has been made an offer this week by GB News & has taken it, quitting to create an air of mystery before any ITV/Ofcom investigation found him in any sort of breach.

As others have said, this is a huge moment for GMB. I’ve always found Ben as dull as anything on Breakfast TV (he’s fine for Tipping Point!). Obviously beating BBC Breakfast hasn’t happened but they’re as close as ever.. it would be a shame to see them sink back to half the BBC audience each morning.

They just need someone who is bloody good to hold politicians to account, for all his faults he was very good at it..

What's annoying is that it's not even a particularly difficult thing to do, but it seems like no other bugger'll do it these days.

The guy was only on Fox News yesterday morning about "woke" people and the like. He's right-wing.

As I say I don't think you can pigeon-hole him as cleanly as that (you can't with many really) . He was editor of the country's only left-wing tabloid newspaper.

Although do you really think he believes everything he says? Like others around at the moment he knows that controversy sells - it gets an audience, it gets you in TV, it gets you followers on social media etc. Its big business. Throw around a few buzzwords like 'woke' and ramp up the culture wars and the cash comes rolling in.

He's playing the game, he just has a bigger field.... well he did until tonight

Sounds terrible but isn't he getting on a bit?

I was thinking Richard Bacon would be a good choice.

Maybe Nicky Campbell?
