I love horses, best of all the animals...

Yeah, bragging to your friends that you've got the first ever appearance of the latest BBC2 ident on tape is just going to cause trouble. Best just talk about the usual stuff, like how good (random TV programme) was last night, or how music isn't as good as it used to be.

To be honest it's not a thing I start discussions about, but if other people brings things up if I know something, I'll mention it!

everybody knew i liked the raccons cause i recorded it in dec 2002 then i transffered the opening titles and end credits (run with us) on to my tape recorder. i then played it @ school and just kept singing to it and it drove my friends nuts. they told me to stop it and grow up so i did and we became friends again.

I'm not surprised it drove them nuts with all the singing! Rolling Eyes

But if you like what you like, then why change? Surely your friends should be more accepting of yourself - everyone is different, and if we all had the same interests it'd be a boring world.

Although it's best to keep the anorak in the closet, just like Chris Moyles does, but subtly let it out once in a while. Just like he doesn't like to admit to throwing sugar cubes at the studio clock on early breakfast, having sung jingles or talking about VCS, minidiscs, CDs and the studios he is on air. In other words, don't go parading around the fact that you love 80s TV presentation or that you have every single BBC ident on a video somewhere.

I generally don't start a topic about TV pres/radio, but do subtly drop the odd fact or nugget of info in a topic of conversation where relevant. Laughing

Thinking about it, we could all know sombody else who likes tv pres aswell but we don't know. Cool

Is Chris Moyles really? Are there others at the BBC/ITV etc with the same desire to talk about the central cake and HTV aerial?

I don't usually talk about presentation at school, nobody is interested in it. I did get high apprasal for my video mock in a school assembly though...

I've always been into TV idents and pres stuff - right back to holding my cassette player up to the television to record the ATV jingle, or the Transmitter Information music (what an excellent piece "Swirly" is...). I had my own network of TV stations, all with logos and jingles etc.

I didn't tell anyone at school - I'd just go with the flow with what amused everyone else, but as someone else mentioned, just let the odd snipit of information - or "sad fact" - out now and again!

About a year ago, I somehow mentioned my liking for old ITV idents to a friend at work who I've known for about 7 years - and he did excatly the same things as me - and never talked about it either!

The great thing with the internet and forums like this is that you realise you're not alone - or weird!

Did I just here right, your old enough to go visit your mates house, that sounds wierd. Surprised
And why do you tell your friends your interested in TV pres, even if you tell them, you should say that you are interested in working in media.
And what is The Raccons? Confused

A lot of people know about my penchant for news-related music.

But I don't get picked on.

I guess you're just unpopular.

At 16 / 17 I much preferred to meet my friends outside of home anyway - perhaps meet at their places, or in a year or so the pub? Have you got a part-time job too? I got more friends through that than I did in the 6th form at school. I found that to an extent you have to at least humour "the pack" - by knowing and talking about what they are all into - I know it is hard to strike a balance between being honest and open about yourself - and "fitting in" to what (the rather dull and boring) rest of the people you know will expect a 16 year old to chat about. Are there any clubs or societys at college you could join, that could give a common interest with others, and in time you could test the waters with your favourite subjects as you get to know people better?

Sounds like you are more fortunately placed in a more accepting and tollerent environment than this guy, although it's clearly not rubbed off on you with that comment.
