I;ve just seen Peter Snow doing his stats on BBC News at 10:20 - and the grapics look fantastic. Does any one else agree/disagree with me - the ones on ITN aren;t nearly as nice

Very nice, but it looks a bit small.

I'm waiting for Sky's studio on election night.
They are the only broadcasters to ever use virtual studios on a regular basis.
So far they have used them for:

Election 97 (first time)
Solar Eclipse
European Elections - which looked fantastic
'A mayor for the capital'
Budget 1998
Budget 1999

They went for a simple wall thing on Budget 2001, not sure why.
So they should have the best looking one, especially if Martin Stanford is going to be walking about amongst all of the graphs (not like Peter who just has them infront of him).
Should be interesting, all 3 are offering virutal studios.

Sky have only used a virtual sudio for Y2K. Previously only Stamford was in a virtual sudio

They haven;t ONLY used one for Y2K.
I think you mean they ALSO used a studio for Y2K and it was amazing, I loved that desk as well, anyone got any screenshots of it?
The European Elections had one as well, it had a big picture of the parliament in Strasburgh - live. and a big European flag projected onto the room.

As for ITN and ITV, with a big news event?
This will be a first.

I remember soon after the launch of the current ITV newsroom, they used the huge green screen (chromakey) effect which was quite good. I haven't seen them use it since.

Will ITV be using the current newsroom for election night, with the green screen?

No ITV are using the atrium of ITN Headquarters, the studio will be on 2 levels. Mary Nightingale on the lower level, Jonathan Dimbleby up top. Dermot Murnaghan will be in the virtual studio.

Sky News will just be broacasting from a totally blue room!
But it will look very proffesional.
They are getting the same company in who has done it before, and the previous ones (Into 2000 especially, I loved that, anyone got ANY pictures?) have always been excellent, so this should be good too.

I have to say though - I dont like them using those blue/green screens! I like news/election sets to be real (with the exception of the old BBC Newsroom!).

I've never seen the ITN atrium, although some of you say there are funny things hanging from the ceiling?

Does anyone remember in 97 the BBC used its normal News room but with different logos and they didnt show the virtual part of it so you actually saw what the newsroom looked like without the computer effects

ITN is a huge building, and actually ITN gets the vast majority of it's revenues and profits from renting out parts of the building.
But it is a VERY nice building, and those things that hang from the celing are very odd.

Here are the pictures I have of the BBC in 97.

ITN have a great building. But is it where 5NEWS broadcast from? The news there looks to be from the back,as it zooms out, you can see the windows of the back, with a curtain style set going all around them, with a FIRE EXIT sign!

Wierd, but 5!
