For those interested, Peter Kay's versions of the BBC One Hip Hop ident for Comic Relief are included in the special features of the new Phoenix Nights 2 DVD.

The BBC ONE red box isn't there, but well worth seeing Brian Potter attempting to join in with the wheelchair dancers. There are also some out-takes where they bump into each other.

I got the DVD the other day and it is fantastic, I must have watched it twice over already, the ident outtakes seem to last longer than the idents, you get tons of effing from Peter Kay and one of the people in the wheelchair talk too at times.

Plus even better there's the full version/ outtake of Max and Paddy singing the theme to Minder. Dink-Dank-Doo. (In the words of Paddy)

Plus if you listen to the commentary they're always taking the p*ss out of Ted Robbins and Granada's version of Boot Sale Challenge.

dvd.co.uk as it 'appens. Smile

Also worth watching the Jim Bowen out-takes - very funny indeed. He keeps calling Brian Potter, 'Frank' and gets all his lines wrong. Peter Kay also tells him off for looking into the camera... "That's ten years of Bullseye that's done that to you!"

I've watched that and it is really funny, but I lost count of how many times Jim Bowen forgot his line and the amount of times he swore too, same with Max and Paddy outside the club eating Chinese food. Plus the unshown audition is dead funny too, with (Granada TV Producer) Eammon O'Neal singing a western song in Chinese, then "Ant and Dec" walk in and start crying because of the song, which is just so funny. Plus the commentary is so intresting too, but they're never on topic all the time, they're usually taking the mick out of Ted Robbins. Plus "Treat, Van Song 1" is so funny, but Minder is the best.

Plus Episode 5 end audition is the best with that awful guy and his singing toy, then Brian tells him to eff off.

If you want to get it, it was £13.99 at WHSmith, but most places will have it for £15.99/£16. (I got mine from Music Zone) But I don't think they'll have sold out yet.

Slightly O/T, but for those of us who get excited by finding idents on DVD, the beeb's wonderful Look Around You (spoof 70s Schools & Colleges programme) has a bit of the yellow and blue BBC1 mirror globe hidden in the special features.

To find it, select 'Test Card' from the 'Additional Materials' menu, and then hit fast forward (or watch for ages). Eventually the DVD credits will appear and then the globe (followed by titles for 'The Hexagons' spoof cartoon).

The DVD also begins with a full 60 second 'Schools and Colleges' countdown clock. It's not quite authentic, but pleasing all the same!
